Blantyre Synod Health & Development Commission The commission implements its programmes using an integrated approach with emphasis on community participation.

2.1 BSHDC Overview

Blantyre Synod Health and Development Commission (BSHDC) is the health and development arm of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Blantyre Synod. Since 1992, BSHDC has been implementing programs within the geographical area of Blantyre Synod, which covers the whole southern region and some parts of Ntcheu District in the central region. is “Community members in Blantyre Synod are living a dignified life in a sustainable manner as politically responsible and engaged citizens”

BSHDC Mission
“BSHDC as a health and development arm of CCAP Blantyre Synod is committed to serving the under-privileged and vulnerable members of the society in a holistic manner regardless of their ethnicity or religious creed.”

BSHDC’s goal is to build and strengthen capacities of families and communities to attain improved quality life. Core values of BSHDC
As a Faith Based Organization we are guided by the church principles and ethics as we believe in and upholding the values of;

In all its programmes, BSHDC’s interventions focus on holistically addressing the needs of children, youths, men and women without any means of segregation.

Description of 50 bags of cement at Nachiswe CCAP led by Rev D Maloya who represented the general secretary. The congregation managed to build a big Manse but has been struggling to finish it. The roof and some walls got damaged by cyclone Freddy but the congregation managed to put the roof back those some of the iron sheets needs to be replaced. The cement will be used to plaster the walls but they still need more help.

Distribution of 50 bags of cement, ridges, roofing nails and 50 iron sheets to Chimwamesi CCAP church in Thuchira presbytery. The exercise was led by the General Secretary Rev Anderson Juma accompaigned by Rev Cliff Nyekanyeka director of BSHDC. The entire church building was complete damaged by cyclone Freddie but the members of the congregation managed to rebuild the walls. They still need more assistance in the form of cement roofing nails and iron sheets for the structure to be fully restored.

Nyekanyeka with the help from Missionary Ventures International (Missionary Venture ) distributed five Motor Cycle to Pastors with the aim to facilitate evengelism effectively across remote and hard-to reach areas. While some communities are sleeping on an empty stomach other areas are thriving. With proper community empowerment skills, it is possible to provide food on the table throughout the year. Blantyre Synod Health and Development Commission (BSHDC) initiated maize irrigation project in its impact area of Ndakwera in Chikwawa district. The irrigation project is being implemented in two communities of Chagaga, Zyuda and Joh in this picture, country managers for We See Hope for Kenya and Uganda are seen appreciating the Chagaga Garden. BSHDC has interventions in the Early Childhood Development, Children’ Corner, Village Savings & loans, and Vocational Skills Development. The harvest shall be used to prepare porridge for the 12 ECDs in the impact area. This initiative came after the rain-fed crops were washed away by Cyclone Freddy in March this year. In line with the above BSHDC provided Chicken to the to the following centres Jailosi, Farao, Mandrade Kampomo, Zalera, Mpasu, Chauwa, Dzikolatha and Masaza. each got 10 chicken to support their Centres.
