About 1500 children with no means to attend public schools are studying, within the shady campus of the monastery, under the guidance of the venerable abbot. Literatures with the aims of instigating good characteristic in social and civil matters and after consulting with the school’s trustees, have handed over the children education since February 2005, to U Ohn Myint, state primary school princi

pal of Hlaing Tharyar Township, though the abbot has been teaching them again personally and has also awarded scholarship to over 60 students in the academic year of 2006-2007. A monumental achievement was accomplished in 2007-2008 academic year when 90 boarder students and external students were admitted to the new monastery school. The single monastery school building was unexpectedly deprived of its roof in the 2008 Nagit hurricane and monks and students temporarily faced accommodation difficulties but due to the generosity of wealthy Daw Ni Ni Win and her associates Ma Gyi, Ma Khat Mar and various other donors donated the roof and floor of the damaged building were able to be repaired and the children were able to continue their studies. In the 2009-2010 academic years the school was raised from its primary status to post-primary status. The children are taught to mediate for ten minutes before the beginning of each school day and every Friday an alternative head monk would lecture the assemblage.
