**Proverbs 4:14-15 (ESV**) "Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on."
The warnings are clear, do not, avoid, turn away, and pass on. Notice the timing here. It is before we "enter the path of the wicked" and "walk in the way of evil". It is a lot easier to stop temptation before we give into its enticement then giving into it and then trying to get out of it. James gives us insight about the process of temptation with these words from James 1:14-15, "But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death." The moment we start to get "drawn away" by our own desires we need to remember the warnings of Proverbs 4:14-15.
