The AIIAS family would like to express our condolences to the family and loved ones of Elder P.D. Chun, who passed away on October 3, 2026, at the age of 90. Elder P.D. Chun is known as the first AIIAS graduate, as he was the first and lone graduate of the SDA Theological Seminary, Far East (was renamed AIIAS in 1986) in April 16, 1972.

Elder Chun spent over 50 years in active service to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Previous positions included middle school teacher, local church pastor, department director for two missions, publishing director, conference president, division administrator, and division president for three divisions.

"Chun led the Church through a historic period of organizational transition in Asia. The Far Eastern Division became the Asia-Pacific Division, which was later divided into the Northern and Southern Asia-Pacific Divisions. Chun continued as the last president of the Far Eastern Division, the first and only president of the Asia-Pacific Division, and the first president of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division."

Despite officially retiring in 2003, he continued serving the church as the international publishing manager of Adventist World.

"His legacy lives on through the Church he helped lead, the mission movements he helped nurture, and the generations of missionaries who continue carrying the gospel throughout Asia."
