1 John 1:9 (NIV)
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
This verse teaches that:
* Confession means honestly acknowledging our sins before God.
* God is faithful—He keeps His promises.
* God is just—for Christians, forgiveness is possible because of Christ’s atoning sacrifice, satisfying God’s justice.
* Forgiveness and cleansing are both promised: God not only forgives guilt but also works to purify us from unrighteousness.
The verse encourages believers to come to God with repentance, trusting His mercy rather than hiding their sins. It emphasizes God’s willingness to forgive those who sincerely confess and turn to Him.
