I’ve been reflecting on that Myles Munroe sermon about influencing without imposing, and it really shifted my perspective on how we should show up in the world.
One thing that stuck with me is that we really shouldn't be fighting the people we’re trying to reach. If you have to force someone to listen, that’s not influence—it’s just control. Real influence is supposed to be attractive. If we’re constantly arguing or trying to win a debate, we’ve already lost the person's heart.
Think about how Jesus did it. He didn't just walk around debating rules; He mastered the principles of life. He solved problems and spoke to the actual needs in front of Him. When you master the "how-to" of life, the world around you just naturally starts to respond.
He used the story of the frog in the pot to explain this perfectly. If you drop a frog in boiling water, it jumps out immediately because it feels the force. That’s what happens when we try to force our beliefs on people—they just jump away. But if you put the frog in cool water and slowly turn up the heat, the frog stays because the environment changes its state without it even realizing it.
As influencers, we are the ones setting the water. Our lives and our character are the environment. If we create the right atmosphere, people don't feel "pushed"—they just adapt to the truth we're living out because it feels natural to them.
Another big point: we shouldn't be in such a rush to just quote text at people. Honestly, people don't care about the quotes if they don't see the results. It’s better to master the principles behind the words. Our lives should be the evidence, not just our speeches.
Lastly, he mentioned studying history, not just facts. Facts are just data, but history tells you the "why" and the context of how people actually move.
The bottom line for us is that we don't need to force our opinions on anyone. We just need to be so consistent in our values that the atmosphere changes just because we’re there. We weren't born to boss people around; we were born to master our purpose and let that speak for itself. 🌍🙌
