Senator Abraham Darius Dillon of Montserrado County has proposed making drug testing a requirement for confirmation of nominated government officials in the security sector, particularly the Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA). He emphasized the importance of taking the issue of drugs seriously in Liberia and stated that he, along with other leaders, would also be willing to undergo drug testing.

Senator Dillon made these remarks during the graduation of the second batch of disadvantaged youths from his Rehabilitation Center, "The Center for Rehabilitation and Reintegration." He stressed the harmful impact of drugs on the younger generation in Liberia and stated that any public official who tested positive for drugs should not be allowed to hold a position in the government.

Put a frog in a vessel of water and start heating the water.

As the temperature of the water rises, the frog is able to adjust its body temperature accordingly.

The frog keeps on adjusting with increase in temperature...

Just when the water is about to reach boiling point, the frog is not able to adjust anymore...

At that point the frog decides to jump out...

The frog tries to jump but is unable to do so, because it has lost all its strength in adjusting with the rising water temperature...

Very soon the frog dies.

What killed the frog?

Many of us would say the boiling water...

But the truth is what killed the frog was its own inability to decide when it had to jump out.

We all need to adjust with people and situations, but we need to be sure when we need to adjust and when we need to confront/face.

There are times when we need to face the situation and take the appropriate action...

If we allow people to exploit us physically, mentally, emotionally or financially, they will continue to do so...

We have to decide when to jump.

Let us jump while we still have the strength.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

March 3, 2023

 Motorists shall then drive down at the end of the road and make a right turn to get controlled access to the AB Tolbert Road towards Duport Road Junction

 Vehicles using the route from AB Road towards the ELWA Junction shall make a right turn behind the LRA Building, as there will be a β€œNo Go Zone” Beyond the Junction towards Jahmale

 Motorists en route to the ELWA – SKD Stadium Road shall divert to SD Cooper Road as the road will be temporarily closed to the Public around the Fawaz Building Materials Store

 Vehicles plying from ELWA Junction – AB Tolbert Road to the main Duport Road Junction shall make a stop and bend to the left at the PYJ/Watch Tower Junction where a concrete barrier will be placed as a sign of road closure

 All traffic from Duport Road towards the main junction shall make a right turn only at the Total Filling Station by directive of the Traffic Police. Meanwhile, all traffic from Benson Hospital Road towards the Duport Road T Junction shall make a left turn at the Total Filling Station. There will be no unauthorized access to vehicles, motorcycles, or kehkeh (Tricycles) beyond the Total Filling Station as there will be concrete barriers to restrict movements.

 Vehicles making access to the main Duport Road Junction towards AB Tolbert – ELWA Junction shall make a right turn by Total Filling Station towards Benson Hospital and make a left turn opposite the hospital towards the main carriageway, and then another left turn towards the Police Academy Junction towards SKD Boulevard Road beyond.

 Vehicles from Zayzay Community to Benson Hospital to Duport shall follow the same directive as mentioned earlier and/or drive directly to the T Junction: Duport Road/Total Filling Station and make a left turn to Duport Road, GSA Road, Rehab, and beyond

The Ministry of Public Works, therefore, solicits the cooperation of all including Motorists, Business Owners, the Liberia National Police through its Traffic Division, and the General Public, as all is being done to restore normal traffic movement beyond the stipulated Closure of the Road which runs from Sunday, March 5 – Wednesday, May 5, 2023.

Please note, however, that the closure of the two Junctions - ELWA and Duport Road - will not be simultaneous. Duport Road Junction will be closed first; Within three weeks of its closure, ELWA Junction will be closed. This is intended to mitigate whatever inconveniences the General Public would face as a consequence of these traffic restrictions.

Thanks for your usual understanding.
