In Islam, the ruling on abortion depends on the stage of pregnancy and the reason. Generally, abortion without a valid Islamic reason is sinful, especially after the soul is believed to be breathed into the fetus (around 120 days), as mentioned in hadith (Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim). However, before that stage, scholars have some differences of opinion, particularly in cases of hardship or necessity. If a mistake was made, the door of tawbah (repentance) is always open. Allah says: “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins” (Qur’an 39:53). Sincere repentance, regret, and turning back to Allah can bring forgiveness.

As for visiting a grave, it is not an obligation in Islam, and in many cases of early miscarriage or abortion, there may not even be a formal grave. So not visiting a grave is not a sin. What matters more is making dua for forgiveness, seeking Allah’s mercy, and correcting one’s actions moving forward. Islam focuses on accountability to Allah, not on specific cultural practices like grave visits.

O Allah, forgive our shortcomings and cover us with Your mercy. Ameen 🤲

And Allah knows best.

Al-Barzakh is the stage between death and the Day of Judgment. It is an unseen world where the soul remains after leaving the body, waiting for the Final Resurrection. The Qur’an mentions a barrier (barzakh) between this life and the next. In this period, a person begins to experience a preview of their final outcome — either comfort and peace for the righteous, or difficulty and regret for those who rejected truth.

According to authentic teachings, the grave is either a garden from the gardens of Paradise or a pit from the pits of Hell. The soul is questioned about its faith, and its condition reflects the life it lived. Al-Barzakh reminds us that death is not the end, but a transition to the eternal life. Therefore, preparation through faith, good deeds, repentance, and sincerity is essential.

O Allah, grant us a peaceful Barzakh, fill our graves with light, forgive our sins, and make our final return to You beautiful. Ameen 🤲
