🏛️ PROTECT THE HERITAGE OF ST. MARY’S COLLEGE, NAWALAPITIYA
For more than a century, St. Mary’s College, Nawalapitiya has stood as a symbol of education, discipline, unity, and opportunity for generations of students from all communities.
The original crest of St. Mary’s College represents the school’s rich history, founding values, traditions, and identity that have been preserved since its establishment in 1915.
Today, many past pupils, parents, parishioners, and well-wishers are concerned about changes made to the school’s traditional logo and identity without broad consultation with stakeholders, alumni, and the wider community.
The comparison shown below highlights the difference between the original historical crest and the currently used version.
This is not about opposing any religion, ethnicity, or community.
This is about preserving the historical heritage, identity, and legacy of a school that has proudly served Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, and all other communities for generations.
We believe:
✅ St. Mary’s College should remain open to students of all faiths and backgrounds.
✅ The school’s historical name, crest, symbols, and traditions should be protected.
✅ Major changes affecting the identity of the school should involve consultation with alumni, parents, the Church, and the community.
✅ Future generations deserve to inherit the proud legacy that generations before us built and preserved.
We respectfully call upon the Ministry of Education, educational authorities, alumni, parents, religious leaders, and community representatives to help protect the heritage and identity of St. Mary’s College, Nawalapitiya.
