According to Buddhism, the money we earn should be used wisely, responsibly, and in a balanced way. This teaching is explained in the Sigalovada Sutta.
Buddha taught that wealth should be used in several proper ways:
1️⃣ Support yourself and your family
Money should be used for basic needs such as:
Food
Clothing
Housing
Medicine
Education and well-being of family members
This ensures a stable and responsible household life.
2️⃣ Develop your work or business
Part of the income should be used to:
Improve your profession or business
Buy necessary tools or resources
Build future income opportunities
This helps create sustainable prosperity.
3️⃣ Save for the future
A portion of income should be saved for unexpected situations such as:
Illness
Emergencies
Financial difficulties
Buddhism encourages financial responsibility and security.
4️⃣ Practice generosity (Dana)
Money should also be used for good deeds such as:
Offering alms to monks
Helping people in need
Supporting religious and charitable activities
This creates merit (punya) and benefits society.
✅ In summary:
Buddhism teaches that wealth should be used for:
Personal and family well-being
Development of work or business
Savings for the future
Generosity and charity.
