Humility is painful.
The determined decision to go low and stay low costs something.
Staying low - choosing peace over retort - in the face of spiteful arrogance demands a painful price.
Staying low - choosing honour of another over self-rights - in the face of accusation demands a painful price.
Staying low - choosing God’s acceptance and affirmation - in the face of slander demands a painful price.
Staying low - choosing faithfulness to God - in the face of blatant disregard for your sacrifices demands a painful price.
Staying low - resilient in the identity that Christ’s cross has accomplished for me - in the face of the relentless pressure to perform demands a painful price.
Humility is never glamourous.
It insists that you give your enemies the space carry on mocking.
It includes the probability that your accusers falsely confirm their allegations against you.
It places you on the path towards undeserved consequences.
In the eyes of this culture, humility invites the taunt, “Oh, you loser!”
Jesus. He took the unglam path. He chose humility.
But....... Oh, the glory of humility.
Oh, the honour it receives from the Throne.
Oh the favour it attracts in The Kingdom.
Oh, the incomparable reward it releases from the Sovereign One.
Oh, the majestic heights to which it raises the one bent low.
Jesus. He was bestowed with the highest Name. He chose humility.
When surrounded by the crazy tension between the chaos of this self-driven realm and the wholeness of the love-driven realm above, what will I choose?
Humility: Never glamorous, always glorifies.
