HAPPY ST. BARNABAS' DAY
Barnabas – The Son of Encouragement
Scripture: Acts 4:32-37
“All the believers were one in heart and mind… Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas… sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.”
Words of Encouragement
Barnabas isn’t famous for preaching or miracles. He’s famous for _people_. His name means “Son of Encouragement,” and he lived up to it.
When the early church was poor, Barnabas sold land and gave everything. When Saul the persecutor got saved, everyone was scared of him — but Barnabas vouched for him and brought him to the apostles. Later, when John Mark failed and Paul wanted to drop him, Barnabas gave him a second chance and took him on as a partner.
Barnabas teaches us that you don’t need a pulpit to change the church. You need a generous heart, a risk-taking faith in others, and a willingness to build people up. The church grows when there are more Barnabases — believers who spot potential, share resources, and speak courage into the discouraged.
Who in your life needs a Barnabas right now? Hear the attached timeless exhortation by the Vicar of St. Barnabas' Mkwachunyi and be a Barnabas now.
Prayer:
Lord, make me like Barnabas. Give me eyes to see the overlooked, a he@art to encourage the weary, and hands open to share what I have. Use me to build Your people, not just my platform. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Happy St. Barnabas' Day.
ACK Mkwachunyi Parish is named after St. Barnabas whose feast is celebrated this week.
