Government Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura Visits Bomas of Kenya to Assess Modernization Progress
Government Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura today visited Bomas of Kenya to review the progress of the ongoing modernization project, which aims to transform the iconic cultural center into a world-class conferencing and cultural hub.
The construction, which began exactly one year ago, has now reached 30.79% completion. Once complete, the upgraded facility is expected to host major international events, including the upcoming Africa–France Summit scheduled for June. The new complex will have a capacity of 11,000 people, making it the second-largest facility of its kind in Africa, after a similar venue in Ghana.
The project is being supervised by the Kenya Defence Forces, with a strong focus on integrating modern infrastructure while preserving Kenya’s rich cultural heritage. Project Manager Joseph Njoroge assured that, despite the modernization, the cultural identity and traditional significance of Bomas of Kenya will remain intact.
The upgrade of Bomas of Kenya represents a strategic investment that will significantly enhance Kenya’s position in the global MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry. With the capacity to host 11,000 delegates, the facility will attract large-scale international conferences and summits that Kenya previously could not accommodate, positioning the country as a direct competitor to top MICE destinations across Africa and beyond.
