*OBSERVATION*
In this text, the Bible outlines the beginning of three of its characters- God, Environment and Man. It also outlines the role of each in life.
God, who is self existent is the origin of both environment and man as a creator through the spoken word. The environment comes before man and exists in 7 separate categories each category defined as the work of a particular day. These are light giving day and night, the sky separating water into that above and under it, dry land separated from sea, vegetation with ability to bear seed and fruit after itself and its kind, sun, moon and stars as marks of time, water animals and birds obliged divinely to be fruitful, to multiply and to fill the earth, living creatures brought forth from the earth and a board meeting to make man in the image after the likeness of God.
The text of the day closes with two separate reports about man. First, he is made male and female after the image and likeness of God. Secondly, he is blessed and commissioned like the other animals to be fruitful, to multiply and to fill the earth. These three mark the relationship between man and his environment. However, the text gives man two divine attributes that describe the God in man in the ability of man to subdue the earth and exercise dominion.
*APPLICATION*
This text answers the most basic question of life from a geo-historic textual approach, what is the origin of life? In the text, we understand that life begins with God who at a time that is called "the beginning" created what people see around them. The text also helps us to understand that man and all animals share the same role in life - fruitful, able to multiply and fill the earth. However, man has the added ability to subdue (bring under control) and dominate (rule) eve
