This week, we looked into some of the Vineyard values, focusing primarily on "Come as You Are." In the Bible, we read that when Jesus called His disciples, His invitation was for them to come as they were. But as they started to reorder their lives around Him and His teachings, He desired that they should not stay as they were.
The invitation was from something to something—an invitation into change and transformation.
We learned that following Jesus is about leaving an old life behind and walking into the new life that can only be found in Him. The cost of following Jesus isn't some sort of holy pick-and-mix where you get to choose the change and transformation you like. Rather, it is about walking in obedience, no matter how hard it gets. We also learned that growing as a follower of Jesus is never a solo journey but one lived in community. Change and transformation are always experienced in community.
The invitation is to come as you are, but don't stay as you are.
