Deepavali or Diwali is one of the biggest festivals in Sanatan Dharma which, comes exactly twenty days after Dussehra. Deepavali means a continuous line of lamps (‘Deep’ means light, and ‘avali’ means a continuous line). Thus, this is the time to celebrate with brightness.

This festival is regarded as a celebration of life and also an occasion to strengthen family and social relationships. This day marks the last day of the Sanatan Dharma Calendar year.

Dhanurmas starts on 16th December 2017 and ends on 14th January 2018.

This designation is given to a period of one month from when the sun enters the Dhanur rashi (Sagitarius) till the 14th of January. Great glory is attached to serving food to devotees during this month.

In the period the sun shifts from the Dhanur rashi till Makar Sankranti, the Samhita advocates bhakti by celebrating Adhyayan, Mokshada and Vun Mahotsavs.

Saphala Ekadashi is observed on the ‘eleventh day of the Krishna Paksha during the month of ‘Paush.’ It is also referred as ‘Pausa Krishna Ekadashi.’ Saphala Ekadashi is sacred to Hindus as it is believed that by fasting on Saphala Ekadashi can wash away the sins. Ekadashi is dedicated to worshipping the preserver of this Universe, who is none other than Lord Vishnu. The word ‘saphala’ means ‘to prosper,’ and hence it should be observed to achieve success and happiness in the life.

The importance of Saphala Ekadashi is mentioned in the ‘Brahmanda Purana’ as a conversation between Dharamraja Yudhishthira and Lord Krishna. According to the scriptures, it is said that hundred Rajasuya Yagas and Ashvamedha Yagas are not as beneficial as observing a fast on Saphala Ekadashi. The day of Saphala Ekadashi is described as a day that transforms bad luck into a rewarding fortune. Saphala Ekadashi has powers to fulfil the desires and dreams. Besides it also give satisfaction and inner peace to the observer of the Saphala Ekadashi.
