1)LEADERSHIP REGARDING PULPIT MINISTRY
HOW TO RAISE PASTORS AND LEADERS IN YOUR MINISTRY
Look ye out therefore, brethren, FROM AMONG YOU seven men of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
Acts 6:3 ASV
One of the greatest needs of every minister in ministry, after money, is a good and strong pastoral and leadership team.
The strength of your ministry is directly tied to the strength of your pastoral and leadership team.
According to Dr. John Maxwell, "everything rises and falls on leadership."
Quite a vast majority of ministry leaders have been making the mistake of sourcing for pastors and leaders from other ministries or from Bible colleges to come and help them run their ministries and this has proven to be very detrimental.
By my research, the strongest and impactful churches, ministries and denominations, raise their pastors, priest or leaders by themselves, they don't take them from elsewhere.
According to our text, your leaders should come 'from among you'.
The following are the steps to raising pastors and leaders for your ministry:
1. PRAY EARNESTLY:
So pray to the Lord of the harvest to force out and thrust laborers into His harvest.
Matthew 9:38 AMPC
Prayer is the foundation for having effective and efficient workers, pastors and leaders.
You must pray to God to send the right people to you.
Jesus Christ spent the whole night, which was about 12 hours(6pm-6am) to choose his leadership team. Luke 6:12-13
2. OBSERVE CAREFULLY:.. Whenever Saul noticed any heroic man or strong warrior, he would take him into his service.
1 Samuel 14:52 EHV
Saw was very observant to spot valiant and strong men to enlist in his army.
As a ministry leader, you must be very vigilant to spot people that are called to ministry and people that have leadership ability.
Also, keep a watch to know those that are showing signs of quick spiritual growth, attend prayer meetings and teaching meetings, engage in evangelism, give generously and defend the church.
There are some people that are called but don't know. It is your duty as a ministry leader to help them discover the call and help them to fulfill their ministry, in your ministry.
3. TRAIN ADEQUATELY:
Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.
Genesis 14:14 NKJV
Abraham trained them and they became powerful soldiers and got victory.
After you discover those with leadership abilities in the church, train them.
Don't ever appoint or ordain an untrained person.
If you don't train them, don't blame them.
If you don't train them, they will drain you.
Design a systematic and systemic program to train your pastors and leaders.
Design a training program such that after someone has passed through your training, he becomes an efficacious minister or leader.
Let your training be thorough and properly packaged.
4. APPOINT DISCRETELY:
After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also...
Luke 10:1
After training should be ordination and appointment.
Don't train people and keep them without giving them responsibilities.
If you train people and after training, there is no clearly defined role for them, they will leave.
A lot of pastors make this mistake. They train so many people at once and afterwards no ordination and appointment or commitment of responsibility, the people now leave in droves to go and become pastors in other ministries or become emergency church founders.
5. ENCOURAGE VIGOROUSLY:
“But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.”
Jeremiah 1:7
When Jeremiah felt he was too young to start ministry, God rejected his excuses and encouraged him to start ministry.
When I made my current Resident Pastor in Uyo to be the Assistant Resident Pastor in Eket, he was in Secondary School.
He told me that he was too young and won't be able to do ministry but I told him that I believed so much in him and today he is pastoring a whole assembly.
6. SUPERVISE TACTICALLY:
And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
Mark 6:30 NKJV
Jesus Christ sent the apostles on mission but He still supervised them. He made them to give official report when they returned.
Don't allow your pastors and leaders to operate as the like, they must be under supervision.
7 APPLAUD AND APPRECIATE GENEROUSLY:
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant...
Matthew 25:21
Appreciate and applaud your pastors as they serve with you in ministry.
Don't be stingy with appreciation if you want to have pastors and leaders in your ministry.
Conclusively, dear ministry leader, stop looking for pastors for your ministry rather, start raising pastors from your ministry, for your ministry
That's healthy on longevity
Not unless your assembly unit put structures of employment over time and it has worked
Without structures and policies it can be counter productive
Even where there are structures they follow the above to make it
