Acts chapters 1 to 7 detail the early history of the Christian church and its founding:
1. **Acts 1**: After Jesus' resurrection, He appears to His disciples and instructs them to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit. He ascends to heaven, and the disciples return to Jerusalem. They choose Matthias to replace Judas Iscariot as a disciple.
2. **Acts 2**: On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descends on the disciples, enabling them to speak in various languages. Peter delivers a sermon, and about 3,000 people are baptized, marking the birth of the Church. The early believers live communally, sharing their possessions.
3. **Acts 3**: Peter and John heal a lame man at the Temple gate. This miracle leads to a sermon by Peter, who explains that it is through Jesus' power that the man was healed. The sermon leads to many more conversions.
4. **Acts 4**: Peter and John are arrested for preaching about Jesus but are released after being threatened. The believers pray for boldness, and the church continues to grow, with members sharing their possessions.
5. **Acts 5**: Ananias and Sapphira are struck dead for lying about their donations. The apostles perform many signs and wonders, and more people join the church. The apostles are arrested but freed by an angel and continue preaching despite further persecution.
6. **Acts 6**: The church faces internal strife as Greek-speaking Jews feel their widows are being neglected. The apostles appoint seven deacons, including Stephen, to handle practical matters, allowing them to focus on prayer and ministry.
7. **Acts 7**: Stephen is falsely accused of blasphemy and delivers a powerful speech recounting Israel's history and accusing the Jewish leaders of resisting the Holy Spirit. He is stoned to death, becoming the first Christian martyr, and his death leads to a wider persecution of the church.
These chapters highlight the early growth of the church, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the challenges and opposition faced by the early Christians.
