بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي فِيهِ أَبْوَابَ الْجِنَانِ، وَأَغْلِقْ عَنِّي فِيهِ أَبْوَابَ النِّيرَانِ، وَوَفِّقْنِي فِيهِ لِتِلَاوَةِ الْقُرْآنِ، يَا مُنَزِّلَ السَّكِينَةِ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ.
_In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful_

O Allah, open for me in this month the gates of Paradise, close for me the gates of Hellfire, and grant me success in reciting the Qur’an. O You who send down tranquility into the hearts of the believers!_

*Reflection:*
This supplication for the 20th day of Ramadhan carries a deep message. When we ask Allah to open for us the gates of Paradise and close the gates of Hellfire, it echoes the Prophet’s words that in this month, these gates are already opened and closed. It’s a *reminder* that Ramadhan is a time of mercy, where doing good becomes easier and avoiding sin becomes more natural.

We then ask for success in reciting the Qur’an, the very book revealed in this month. This isn’t just about reading—it’s about connecting with its guidance and letting it shape our hearts. And finally, we invoke Allah as the One who sends *tranquility* into the hearts of believers.

Why tranquility? Because the human heart is restless, always searching for peace in wealth, status, or pleasures, yet true calm comes only in remembrance of Allah. Ramadhan strips away distractions and leaves us face to face with our own longing for Him. This supplication isn’t just asking for blessings in the moment—it’s asking for a lasting transformation, where the peace and closeness to Allah found in Ramadhan stay with us long after the month is over.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful._

اللَّهُمَّ وَفِّقْنِي فِيهِ لِمُوَافَقَةِ الْأَبْرَارِ، وَجَنِّبْنِي فِيهِ مُرَافَقَةَ الْأَشْرَارِ، وَأَوِنِي فِيهِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ إِلَى دَارِ الْقَرَارِ، بِأُلُوهِيَّتِكَ يَا إِلٰهَ الْعَالَمِينَ.

O Allah, grant me success in this month to follow the path of the righteous, keep me away from the companionship of the wicked, and shelter me, through Your mercy, in the abode of eternal stability, by Your Divinity, O Lord of the worlds._

*Reflection:*
This supplication reminds us that our final destiny is not just a vague concept—it is something we actively shape through the choices we make, especially in this blessed month of Ramadhan. We ask Allah to guide us toward the righteous (الأبرار) because those we surround ourselves with influence our journey. The company of the righteous helps us stay firm in faith, remind us of our purpose, and encourage us to do good, while the company of the wicked (الأشرار) pulls us toward heedlessness, sin, and distractions that take us away from our true goal— the eternal abode of stability (دار القرار).

Ramadhan is a time of *spiritual realignment, a chance to reflect on the people and influences we allow into our lives. This supplication teaches us that who we choose to accompany in this world impacts where we will end up in the next. But we cannot do this alone— we need Allah’s help to walk the right path, to recognize harmful influences, and to find the strength to distance ourselves from them.

By seeking Allah’s guidance in keeping good company, we are actually seeking His protection over our hearts, our faith, and ultimately, our eternal home. The people we associate with shape our mindset, our habits, and even our destiny, and in this month of purification, we ask Allah to help us choose wisely, so that our path leads us to peace, stability, and closeness to Him.
