Today, Christians gathered at St. Paul's Shibale Church to mark the solemn and meaningful day of Ash Wednesday. We were blessed to be joined by students from Mumias Central Primary School and Mumias Complex Primary School, who came to observe and take part in this important Christian tradition.
The service was led by our priest, Benson Mayabi, who reminded us of the true meaning of this season.
🌿 Key Lessons from the Service:
⏰ Make your time available for God
Lent is a season to intentionally set aside time for prayer, worship, and drawing closer to God.
🪞 Time for self-reflection
It is a moment to examine our lives, correct our ways, and renew our relationship with God.
🥩 Time for denial and fasting
We are encouraged to deny ourselves—forsaking something we love, whether it is meat, certain foods, or any habit that distracts us from God—for 40 days. This sacrifice strengthens our spiritual discipline.
🤝 Help the needy
After the 40 days, we are reminded to extend love and generosity to those in need, putting our faith into action.
✝️ Ashes on the forehead
The ashes marked on our foreheads serve as a powerful reminder: “We came from dust, and to dust we shall return.” They symbolize humility, repentance, and our dependence on God.
May this Lenten season transform us spiritually as individuals, families, and as a church community.
