2026 YEAR OF BREAKING OUT OF LIMITATIONS.
=> 1 Chronicles 4:1-10
[1]THE SONS of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.
[2]Reaiah son of Shobal was the father of Jahath, and Jahath of Ahumai and Lahad. These were the families of the Zorathites.
[3]These were the sons of [Hur] the father of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash. And their sister was Hazzelelponi.
[4]And Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the eldest of Ephrathah (Ephrath), the father of Bethlehem.
[5]Ashur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
[6]Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari. These were Naarah's sons.
[7]The sons of Helah: Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan.
[8]Koz was the father of Anub, Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel son of Harum.
[9]Jabez was honorable above his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez [sorrow maker], saying, Because I bore him in pain.
[10]Jabez cried to the God of Israel, saying, Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and You would keep me from evil so it might not hurt me! And God granted his request. Anp.

Reaiah, Shobal's son, had Jahath; and Jahath had Ahumai and Lahad. These made up the families of the Zorathites.
Sons of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash. Their sister was named Hazzelelponi.
Penuel had Gedor and Ezer had Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, firstborn son of Ephrathah, who was the father of Bethlehem.
Ashhur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
Naarah gave birth to Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari—Naarah's children.
Helah's sons were Zereth, Zohar, Ethnan,
and Koz, who had Anub, Hazzobebah, and the families of Aharhel son of Harum.
Jabez was a better man than his brothers, a man of honor. His mother had named him Jabez (Oh, the pain!), saying, "A painful birth! I bore him in great pain!"
Jabez prayed to the God of Israel: "Bless me, O bless me! Give me land, large tracts of land. And provide your personal protection—don't let evil hurt me." God gave him what he asked. Msg.

INTRODUCTION
Chronicles lists names — most pass without comment.
Suddenly, Scripture pauses to spotlight Jabez.
He began with a painful label, yet ended with a powerful testimony:
“And God granted his request.”
This shows: Your beginning does not have to determine your future.
I. JABEZ’S BACKGROUND — A STORY MARKED BY PAIN (v. 9)
1. He was given a painful name
“Jabez” means pain / sorrow maker.
His identity was shaped by circumstances beyond his control.
2. Lessons
People may label you — God can rename you.
Family history, failure, poverty, or rejection do not have the final word.
God specializes in rewriting stories.
Application: What “labels” have followed you? Bring them to God.
II. JABEZ’S CHARACTER — HONOR IN ORDINARY LIFE (v. 9)
“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers.”
Honor here suggests:
Integrity
Reverence for God
A life aligned with faith
God notices character, even in hidden places.
Application:
Before we pray for God to lift us higher, we must let Him deepen our character.
III. JABEZ’S PRAYER — A FAITH THAT ASKED BOLDLY (v. 10)
Jabez didn’t complain about his name — he prayed.
1. “Oh, that You would bless me”
Not selfish prosperity — but God’s favor, God’s presence, God’s purpose.
True blessing is what comes from God and leads back to God.
Pray: “Lord, give me what only You can give.”
2. “Enlarge my territory”
Expansion of responsibility, influence, usefulness or and even land, large tracts of land.
Not just more possessions — but greater capacity to serve.
Pray: “God, increase my effectiveness for Your kingdom.”
3. “Let Your hand be with me”
God’s hand represents guidance, strength, anointing, protection.
Jabez knew enlarged territory requires greater dependence.
Pray: “Lord, don’t promote me beyond Your presence.”
4. “Keep me from evil so it might not hurt me”
He asked for holiness and protection from sin’s traps.
He did not just want blessing — he wanted blessing without compromise.
Pray: “Guard my heart so success will not destroy me.”
IV. GOD’S RESPONSE — HEAVEN ANSWERS FAITH (v. 10)
“And God granted his request.”
God delights in faith-filled, kingdom-centered prayers.
Prayer is not a ritual — it is the doorway to transformation.
Key truth:
You may have come from pain — but by prayer, you can move into purpose.
CONCLUSION
Jabez started with sorrow — ended with blessing.
His story reminds us:
God can lift you beyond your beginnings.
Character prepares you for increase.
Prayer invites God into your limitations.
God still answers when His people cry out.

Pray in the spirit of Jabez:
“Lord, bless me according to Your will.”
“Enlarge my capacity to serve You.”
“Let Your hand be upon my life.”
“Keep me from evil and from harming others.”
