WHO ARE YOU?
13 Truths on Identity in Christ from Acts 19
There was a group of men called the sons of Sceva.
They watched Paul cast out demons.
So they tried it too.
"IN THE NAME OF JESUS WHOM PAUL PREACHES, I COMMAND YOU TO COME OUT."
But the demon answered them:
"Jesus I know. Paul I know. But WHO ARE YOU?"
Acts 19:15
And he leapt on them and overpowered them.
Familiarity without relationship is dangerous.
Seven men.
One demon.
Zero authority.
They had the formula.
They had the name.
They had the confidence.
But they didn't have Christ.
And hell knew it.
"WHO ARE YOU?"
The question wasn't asked to them.
It was asked _about_ them.
"WHO ARE YOU?"
Acts 19:15
Not "What church do you attend?"
Not "What's your title?"
Not "How long have you been saved?"
WHO. ARE. YOU.
Your identity is either in Christ... or it isn't.
Proximity is not the same as identity.
The sons of Sceva were _around_ deliverance.
They saw it. They copied it. They quoted it.
But they were never _in_ it.
You can be in the room where miracles happen and still be powerless.
Because Jesus isn't looking for spectators.
He's looking for sons.
There is a difference between being _familiar_ with Jesus and _following_ Jesus.
Familiarity says: "I know about Him."
Following says: "I know Him, and He knows me."
The demon didn't say "I know your doctrine."
He said "I know _Jesus_."
And then asked: "But who are you?"
You cannot build your identity on titles, positions, or Christian culture.
"I'm a pastor."
"I'm a worship leader."
"I grew up in church."
"I know scripture."
The demon doesn't care.
The question remains:
"WHO ARE YOU?"
"Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves."
2 Corinthians 13:5
This series isn't to make you afraid.
It's to make you honest.
Because one day, life will ask you the same question the demon asked:
"WHO ARE YOU?"
And your answer can't be borrowed.
Jesus isn't a formula you can use.
He isn't a name you can throw around.
He isn't a brand you can borrow.
He is a Person.
And He either knows you... or He doesn't.
Matthew 7:23
So the question isn't "Do you know the name?"
The question is: "Does the Name know you?"
Remove everything.
Your title.
Your platform.
Your following.
Your Christian vocabulary.
Would there still be evidence that you belong to Christ?
Or would heaven look at you and ask:
"WHO ARE YOU?"
"Because spiritual identity isn't something you announce.
It is something your life reveals."
Jesus said: "You will know them by their fruits."
Matthew 7:16
Not by their captions.
Not by their titles.
Not by how loudly they say, "LORD, LORD."
And this isn't meant to make you afraid of demons.
It's meant to make you honest with yourself.
DO I ACTUALLY KNOW CHRIST?
Or have I simply become very familiar with Christianity?
Because there is a difference between _being around_ Jesus and _belonging_ to Jesus.
The beautiful part is this:
Jesus isn't asking you to manufacture a spiritual identity.
He is offering you a new one.
When you come to Christ, you aren't just adding Christianity to the life you already have.
You become new.
"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation."
2 Corinthians 5:17
THE INVITATION
So don't just ask:
"Do I look like a Christian?"
Ask:
"DO I BELONG TO CHRIST?"
Your title won't save you.
Your church attendance and Your Christian vocabulary won't save you.
Jesus saves.
