We recently shared a post here and one of our followers raised a very valid concern, that in the next couple of years, pixie oranges might get saturated in the market and the prices will drop drastically.
But we look at it a little differently.

The market rarely rewards quantity alone—it also rewards quality. Farmers who consistently produce clean, sweet, well-sized fruits will always have an advantage over those who don't.

Pixie oranges remain one of the most sought-after citrus varieties because consumers love their sweetness. Even if more farmers plant them, demand for quality fruit is likely to remain strong.

Our advice is not to focus on how many trees everyone else is planting, but on how well you manage your orchard. Good agronomic practices, proper nutrition, pest and disease control, and smart marketing will always put a farmer in a stronger position.

After all, Kenya's population is growing, fruit consumption is increasing, and quality fruit is never easy to find in surplus.

Does size matter? 🤔😅
In seedlings… absolutely YES!

A well-grown, healthy seedling—grown in a bigger seedling bag, has a stronger root system, better growth potential, and higher chances of establishing quickly in the field.
Tiny, weak seedlings may look cheaper, but they can cost you time, poor growth, and lower productivity later.

Before buying seedlings, don’t just ask for the price—look at the quality, size, health, and graft union too. Your future orchard depends on it!

Quality and authenticity.

This is the inspection team from Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service - Kephis, who visited our nursery to assess our seedlings and also inspect our model farm where we source grafting scions. We are proud that they were impressed by the health, management, and quality standards maintained across our farm.

This process helps ensure farmers receive clean, healthy, and true-to-type seedlings. Quality planting materials and professional support is key.

Citrus fruit trees, especially Pixie can produce nearly all year round.
On the same tree, you’ll find ripe fruits ready for harvesting, others nearing maturity, and young fruits still developing.

It’s a beautiful sign of a healthy, well-managed orchard—and a reminder that good seedlings and proper care truly make a difference.

We gladly welcome farm visits for farmers, groups, schools, and agribusiness enthusiasts who would love to learn more about citrus farming and orchard management.
Come see the different varieties and learn practically from our demo farm.

This is our friend’s backyard and kitchen garden in Rongai, Kajiado, where we assisted her establish a collection of fruit trees

Among the varieties planted was the beautiful variegated lemon—admired not only for its fruit, but also for its unique ornamental appeal. Its striking green-and-cream foliage adds beauty to the compound while still remaining productive.

Whether you have a large farm or a small compound, every space can be transformed into something productive with the right planning.

FARM TIP OF THE DAY

One of the biggest mistakes farmers make when planting fruit trees is preparing shallow planting holes or forgetting to remove the polythene seedling bags.

For proper root development, the ideal planting hole size is 2 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet. However, the hole can always be wider depending on your soil condition. Also, the hole does not have to be perfectly cubed—round holes work just as well. The goal is to create enough space for healthy root expansion and better water retention.

Always remove the polythene bag completely before planting to avoid restricting root growth

If you notice these raised brown spots on your citrus leaves or fruits, then your orchard could be battling citrus canker 👀🍊

Citrus canker is a highly contagious bacterial disease that causes raised corky lesions on leaves, stems, and fruits. Severe infections lead to leaf and fruit drop, fruit blemishes, reduced yields, and weak tree growth.

Management starts with early detection—prune and destroy infected branches, disinfect pruning tools regularly, and avoid moving infected plant material across farms. Copper-based sprays can also help reduce spread.

For prevention, always plant certified healthy seedlings, maintain orchard hygiene, and ensure proper tree spacing.
Healthy orchards begin with prevention and clean farm practices.
