THE POWER OF WORDS
Reverend Solomon Simba,
Deliverance church —Uzima Springs Machakos.
The word “word” is not as simple as it sounds. It is a creative force, a tool that releases whatever the speaker intends. Words carry weight. They have wings. They create impact. They make things happen.
In the book of Genesis, when God was creating the world, He used His Word. He spoke things that did not exist into existence, and they became exactly as He said
Genesis 1:3 “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
This reveals a profound truth. Words have power.
Throughout Scripture, we see people blessed and others cursed through words. For example, Reuben was cursed by his father Jacob
Genesis 49:3 to 4
“Reuben, thou art my firstborn… unstable as water, thou shalt not excel”
Yet later Moses spoke a blessing over him
Deuteronomy 33:6
“Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his men be few”
This shows that words can shape destiny for good or otherwise.
Sometimes we hear words from others, especially enemies, that sting deeply and distract us from what God has said about us. At other times we become overwhelmed and begin to speak negatively about ourselves. Words of defeat, death, uselessness, and limitation. Shockingly, the spirit realm does not interpret sarcasm or jokes. It responds to what is spoken.
Over time, we can become what we continually declare
Proverbs 18:21
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue…”
Psalm 118:17
“I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.”
Be intentional about what you say about yourself.
Scripture also tells the story of Jabez, a man born out of pain
1 Chronicles 4:9 to 10
“His mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow…
And Jabez called on the God of Israel…”
He used words through prayer to change his story.
His declarations were powerful
Bless me indeed
Enlarge my territory
Let Your hand be with me
Keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain
And God granted his request.
Your words matter. Speak life. Speak growth. Speak purpose. What you consistently declare has the power to shape your reality.
