Inauguración de La Casa de Filosofía de San Agustín de la MCSPA en Balaka, Malawi

La alegría y la felicidad reflejadas en los rostros de los miembros y aprendices de la Comunidad Misionera de San Pablo Apóstol lo decía todo, lucía también en todos los presentes. La canción de entrada recitaba con alegría: «¡Chaka! ¡Chaka! Lero kuli chaka», que significa «¡Alégrense! ¡Alégrense! Hoy es un gran día», y lo fue, en cuanto comenzó la procesión de la misa.

En la tarde del 30 de julio, la MCSPA expandió su huella con la inauguración de nuestra primera Casa de Formación en Filosofía —el Filosofado de San Agustín— en Balaka, diócesis de Mangochi, Malawi. Se trata, sin duda, de un hito dentro del crecimiento que estamos viviendo en la MCSPA. Para nuestra mayor alegría, la presidenta de la MCSPA, Scholastica Wamalwa, pudo estar presente, junto con otros miembros de la Comunidad, y participar de la celebración.

La inauguración comenzó a última hora de la tarde con una misa presidida por el reverendísimo Montfort Sitima, obispo de la diócesis de Mangochi. El obispo comenzó bendiciendo la iglesia, y los demás sacerdotes le siguieron bendiciendo todo el recinto. Sacerdotes y seminaristas de seis congregaciones avivaron la celebración participando en el coro y en la inauguración en su conjunto.

En su homilía, el obispo Montfort estableció una analogía con la casa del alfarero del Libro del profeta Jeremías, enfatizando la importancia de moldear vidas con cuidado y una intención clara. Esta bendición significó algo más que un nuevo edificio; significó un lugar de auténtica formación humana.

Rezamos para que todos los que pasen por esta casa salgan de ella moldeados y formados, fortalecidos y preparados para servir como misioneros en el carisma de la MCSPA.

Scholastica Wamalwa agradeció al obispo Montfort por acoger a la MCSPA en Balaka. También expresó su agradecimiento a la Sociedad de Misioneros de Montfort por acoger a nuestros primeros seminaristas y a los padres Manuel Hernández y Fernando Aguirre por conseguir la financiación y llevar a cabo la construcción de los edificios del Filosofado de San Agustín.

Inauguration of MCSPA’s St. Augustine’s Philosophate at Balaka, Malawi

The joy and happiness on the faces of the members and apprentices of the Missionary Community of St. Paul the Apostle, as well as the people present, were evident. The entrance hymn, ”Chaka! Chaka! Lero kuli chaka,” meaning “Rejoice! Rejoice! Today is a big day,” sang of joy as the procession of the Mass began.

On this evening of July 30, the MCSPA expanded its footprint by opening its first Formation House for Philosophy, St. Augustine’s Philosophate, at Balaka, in Mangochi Diocese, Malawi. This milestone marks the continued growth of the MCSPA. The President of the MCSPA, Scholastica Wamalwa, along with other members, were present to witness this celebration.

The inauguration began in the late afternoon with Mass led by Rt. Rev. Montfort Sitima, Bishop of Mangochi Diocese. The Bishop blessed the church and the compound, and priests and seminarians from all six congregations enlivened the celebration by participating in the choir and the inauguration.

In his homily, Bishop Montfort drew an analogy from the potter’s house in the Book of Jeremiah, emphasising the importance of moulding lives with care and intention. This blessing marked more than a new building; it marked a place of genuine human formation.

We pray that everyone who enters this house will leave moulded and formed, stronger and ready to serve as missionaries in the charism of the MCSPA.

Scholastica Wamalwa thanked Bishop Montfort for welcoming the MCSPA in Balaka and the Society of Montfort Missionaries for welcoming our first seminarians. She also recognised the efforts of Frs. Manuel Hernandez and Fernando Aguirre in sourcing funding and building the buildings of St. Augustine’s Philosophate.

La Parroquia de Kibish Resplandece en un Doble Jubileo de Fe y Alegría

Mientras la Iglesia universal celebra la vida de los santos Joaquín y Ana, los queridos abuelos de Jesús y padres de la Virgen María, la parroquia de Kibish se llenó de una doble celebración entrelazada con risas, cantos y gracia. La parroquia se regocijó no solo por honrar a sus santos patronos, sino también por conmemorar su octavo aniversario de existencia, tras haber echado raíces en el desierto.

Los cristianos estaban radiantes. Ataviados con los coloridos y tradicionales trajes turkana, los wazees, las mamás, los jóvenes y los niños llenaban la iglesia ya a las 9:30 de la mañana, sus voces alzándose en hermosos himnos que hacían reverberar las paredes. La Santa Misa fue presidida por el P. Andrew Yakulula, MCSPA, acompañado por aprendices de la MCSPA y visitantes de España y Kenia.

Ciertamente, el espíritu de Joaquín y Ana se apoderó de la jornada. La alegría rebosaba en cada ulular y en cada paso de baile. Contemplar esos rostros sonrientes fue el momento más sagrado de todos: un recordatorio de que, cuando nos reunimos para rezar y cantar a Dios, la paz se desborda y los cielos se abren para derramar bendiciones.

Tras nutrirse con el Santísimo Sacramento, se invitó a toda la congregación a compartir el almuerzo en el recinto parroquial. Mientras se servía abundante comida, las canciones de alegría seguían brotando de los labios de las mamás.

Finalmente, bajo la fresca sombra del árbol de neem, los wazees se sentaron con el P. Andrew. Con el corazón lleno de gratitud, reconocieron la labor que la parroquia está realizando en Kibish y se comprometieron a brindar su apoyo inquebrantable a todas sus actividades. En ese momento de silencio y profundidad, sentimos que nuestro fundador, Paco, estaba verdaderamente con nosotros.

Por último, queremos expresar nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a todos aquellos que habéis trabajado en la parroquia de Kibish, pues la alegría de este día es fruto de vuestro incansable trabajo.

Que Dios siga concediéndonos sabiduría por intercesión de los santos Joaquín y Ana.

Kibish Parish Glows in Double Jubilee of Faith and Joy

As the Universal Church celebrates the lives of Sts. Joachim and Anne, the beloved grandparents of Jesus and parents of the Virgin Mary, Kibish Parish burst into a double celebration woven with laughter, song and grace. The parish rejoiced not only in honoring its patron saints, but also in marking its 8th anniversary of existence, taking root in the desert.

The Christians were radiant. Clad in vibrant traditional Turkana attire, wazees, mamas, youth and children filled the church as early as 9:30 a.m., their voices rising in beautiful hymns that made the walls reverberate. The Holy Mass was presided over by Fr. Andrew Yakulula, MCSPA, accompanied by apprentices of the MCSPA and visitors from Spain and Kenya.

Indeed, the spirit of Joachim and Anne hovered over the day. Joy overflowed in every ululation and every step of the dance. To behold those smiling faces was the most sacred moment of all - a reminder that when we gather to pray and sing for God, peace overflows and the heavens open to shower blessings.

After being nourished by the Blessed Sacrament, the entire congregation was invited to share lunch in the parish compound. As abundant food was served, songs of joy still poured from the lips of the mamas.

Finally, under the cool shade of the neem tree, the wazees sat with Fr. Andrew. With grateful hearts, they appreciated the work the parish is doing in Kibish and pledged their unwavering support for all its activities. In that quiet, profound moment, we felt our Founder, Paco, was truly with us.

Lastly, we would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all those who have worked in Kibish Parish, for the joy of this day is the fruit of your tireless labour.

May God continue to grant us wisdom through the intercession of Sts. Joachim and Anne.

Conmemorando A Aquellos Que Nos Precedieron

La festividad de San Joaquín y Santa Ana, los queridos abuelos de Jesús, fue celebrada con dos días de antelación en la Misión de Nariokotome. Ambos santos son patronos de las personas mayores, cuyas vidas entre nosotros nos siguen recordando la belleza de la familia, la fe y el ejemplo imperecedero de unos padres amorosos y devotos.

La celebración comenzó con la Santa Misa, presidida por el P. Antonio Aguirre, MCSPA, y asistida por el diácono Joachim Basil. La misa fue bellamente animada por todos los miembros de la MCSPA presentes y por nuestros queridos mayores de los alrededores. Su apasionada participación fue un entrañable recordatorio de que la fe no tiene límite de edad. Sus oraciones, sus alegres cantos y sus conmovedoras respuestas se hicieron eco de la sabiduría, la fortaleza y el amor que infunden.

En la homilía, el P. Antonio nos recordó que los padres de la Virgen María concibieron a su hija muy tarde en la vida, cuando ya pensaban que morirían sin hijos. Tanto San Joaquín como Santa Ana sabían que María había sido concebida milagrosamente, como fruto de muchas oraciones, pero sin duda no tenían ni idea de cuáles serían los planes de Dios para su hija.

Tras la misa, nos dirigimos al recinto de la panadería San Martín de Porres, en Nariokotome, donde la celebración continuó con música y baile, comida y una tarta inmensa.

Y entonces comenzó el baile… Si alguien pensaba que la edad ralentiza a las personas, nuestras abuelas y abuelos estaban decididos a demostrar lo contrario. En cuanto sonó la música y, sobre todo, cuando se sirvió la tarta, bailaron con gran pasión. El entusiasmo de las personas mayores nos recordó a todos que un corazón alegre nunca envejece.

Como muestra de nuestro cariño y agradecimiento, cada uno de ellos recibió una manta y una pequeña bolsa de regalo, generosamente facilitadas por la Embajada de España en Kenia. También queremos expresar nuestro agradecimiento a Cantabria Labs por su apoyo constante, del que se han beneficiado 300 personas mayores cada año.

La celebración fue un maravilloso recordatorio de que envejecer es, sin duda, una bendición, y de que la alegría, la fe y el amor no hacen más que enriquecerse con el paso de los años.

Que los Santos Joaquín y Ana sigan intercediendo por nuestros mayores, bendiciéndoles con buena salud, paz, fuerza y alegría abundante. Que nunca dejemos de honrar, apreciar y cuidar a quienes nos han precedido y han allanado con amor el camino para las generaciones futuras.

Celebrating Those Who Walked Ahead Of Us

The feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne, the beloved grandparents of Jesus, was celebrated 2 days early at Nariokotome Mission. Both these saints are patrons of the elderly, whose lives in our midst continue to remind us of the beauty of family, faith and the lasting example of loving and devoted parents.

The celebration began with Holy Mass which was presided over by Fr. Antonio Aguirre, MCSPA, assisted by Deacon Joachim Basil. The mass was beautifully animated by all MCSPA members present and also by our beloved elderly from around. Their enthusiastic participation was a touching reminder that faith has no age limit. Their prayers, joyful singing and heartfelt responses echoed the wisdom, resilience and love that they impart.

In the homily Fr. Antonio reminded us that the parents of the Virgin Mary conceived their child very late in life when they thought they would die childless. Both Sts. Joachim and Anne knew that Mary was conceived miraculously, as a result of many prayers, but they certainly had no idea what God’s plans would be for their daughter.

After mass, we all made our way to the St. Martin de Porres Bakery grounds at Nariokotome, where the festivities continued with music and dance, food and a huge cake.

And then the dancing began … If anyone thought that age slows people down, our grandmothers and grandfathers here were determined to prove them wrong. The moment the music started and especially when the cake was being cut, they danced with such passion. The enthusiasm of the elderly reminded us all that a joyful heart never grows old.

As a beautiful sign of our love and appreciation, each one of them received a blanket and a small gift bag generously facilitated by the Embassy of Spain in Kenya. Our appreciation also goes to Cantabria Labs for their continuous support which has benefited 300 elderly persons every year.

The day’s celebration was a wonderful reminder that growing old is indeed a blessing, and that joy, faith and love only become richer with the passing of the years.

May Sts. Joachim and Anne continue to intercede for all our elderly, blessing them with good health, peace, strength and abundant joy. May we never cease to honor, cherish and care for those who have walked before us and lovingly paved the way for future generations.

Cambiando Percepciones

Los 123 alumnos de KG3 (educación infantil) de Muketuri protagonizaron recientemente un ejemplo difícil de olvidar. Aprovecharon la ocasión del último día de clase para lanzar un poderoso mensaje a todos los presentes: una obra de teatro que narraba la historia de un niño ciego al que no aceptaban en el colegio debido a su discapacidad.

Esta conmovedora representación, por niños de apenas seis años, interpeló a los adultos a reconocer que: todos los niños, independientemente de sus capacidades o discapacidades, tienen derecho a asistir al colegio, recibir una educación y conseguir sus sueños. ¡El mensaje de que todos los niños merecen amor, respeto e igualdad de oportunidades caló hondo!

Hace solo unos años, una escena como esta habría sido impensable en Muketuri, donde a los niños con necesidades especiales se les confinaba y escondía en sus casas.

Hoy, ser testigos de este cambio nos llena de alegría. Los niños con necesidades especiales son ahora cada vez más aceptados como parte de la comunidad. Sus familias los llevan al colegio, donde aprenden junto a otros niños, y son valorados no por sus discapacidades, sino por sus capacidades y su dignidad.

Es una hermosa señal de esperanza y un paso importante hacia una sociedad más inclusiva, en la que todo niño es valorado y tiene la oportunidad de desarrollar todo su potencial.

Changing Perceptions

All 123 of our KG3 students (Kindergarten) at Muketuri set an unforgettable example recently. They seized the opportunity of the school closing day to give a powerful presentation to all present: a play that recounted the story of a blind child who was not accepted at school because of his disability.

This moving presentation by 6-year olds, sent a message to the adults: every child, regardless of ability or disability, has the right to go to school, receive an education and fulfil his or her dream. The message that every child deserves love, respect and equal opportunity sank in!

This would have been difficult to imagine a few years ago in the Muketuri area where children with special needs were usually confined in their homes.

Today, we are happy to see a great change. Children with special needs are now increasingly accepted as part of the community. Families are bringing them to school where they learn alongside other children, and they are being seen not for their disabilities rather for their abilities and dignity.

This is a beautiful sign of hope and an important step towards a more inclusive society where every child is valued and given the chance to reach his or her full potential.
