The afternoon session was led by Sister Blessings Temba, a student at Kisii University and the Secretary of the Christian Union. She is a passionate young Christian leader actively involved in student ministry, mentorship and guiding fellow youths in matters of faith, relationships, and personal growth. Known for her openness, clarity and relatability, she has been instrumental in fostering honest conversations that help young people align their lives with biblical principles while navigating modern-day challenges.

In her session, Sister Blessings handled the topic of relationships, carefully tying it to the rally’s theme of “Launching Deeper.” She began by asking a foundational question: why do people get into relationships? She explained that relationships are ordained by God and are meant to have purpose, not merely driven by emotions, trends, or peer pressure. She challenged the youths to move beyond surface-level attraction and intentionally seek relationships that are meaningful, purposeful and grounded in God’s design.

Drawing from Luke 2:52, she outlined the standard of a Christian relationship, emphasizing that just as Jesus grew in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man, relationships should reflect balanced growth in four key areas: intellectual, physical, spiritual and social compatibility. She stressed that a strong relationship should not only focus on feelings but also on shared growth and mutual development in these important dimensions.

She further cautioned the youths that frequent communication, such as talking daily, often leads to emotional attachment, and therefore relationships must be approached with wisdom and intentional boundaries. To make the session more interactive, she invited the youths to share some of the red flags they observe in relationships. These included lack of seriousness, dishonesty, disrespect, always being “busy,” sleeping early at unusual times like 7pm to avoid communication, lack of matching effort or energy, turning off phones while with a partner, and inability to control anger. She explained that these are warning signs that should never be ignored.

On the positive side, she guided them in identifying green flags in relationships, which included being supportive, emotionally mature, intelligent, and financially responsible. She emphasized that such qualities contribute to stability, trust and healthy growth in a relationship.

She further reminded the youths that everything has its own time, referencing Ecclesiastes 3:5, encouraging them to exercise patience and trust in God’s timing. She also quoted 1 Corinthians 13, emphasizing that love is patient and should be expressed in a godly, respectful, and disciplined manner. Additionally, she reminded them that their bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, urging them to honor God in their relationships and use their energy wisely in ways that glorify Him.

When the session became intense and stirred deep emotions among the youths, Senior Brother Mike Otieno stepped in to bring clarity and balance to the discussion. He acknowledged the openness of the youths and commended them for their honesty in raising real-life concerns. He carefully addressed the tough questions that had emerged, offering guidance on boundaries, emotional attachment, peer pressure, and modern relationship challenges. He reminded the youths that “launching deeper” means going beyond feelings and building lives rooted in wisdom, discipline, and godly values. He also emphasized the importance of patience, accountability, and seeking mentorship when facing relationship struggles, encouraging them to always seek clarity through godly counsel.

By the end of his intervention, he had successfully restored calm and focus, bringing the youths back to the central message of the day. The session concluded with a vibrant question-and-answer segment, where the youths actively participated, asked questions, and shared openly. It was one of the most engaging moments of the day, leaving the youths deeply impacted and fully aligned with the call to launch deeper in every area of their lives, including relationships, with wisdom, purpose and spiritual maturity.

The Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. John O***a Omangi, who also serves as the Provincial KAYO Chairperson, warmly greeted the youths and officially welcomed them to the rally with great joy and fatherly encouragement. He expressed his delight in seeing young people gathered with a hunger to grow spiritually, mentally and socially, urging them to take full advantage of the opportunity to transform their lives.

In his address, the Bishop strongly anchored his message on the theme of “Launching Deeper,” guiding the youths on practical areas where they need to step out and grow. He emphasized that launching deeper is not just a spiritual concept but a call to action in every aspect of life.

First, he highlighted education and skill development as a key area where youths must launch deeper. He encouraged them to take their studies seriously and intentionally acquire relevant skills that will equip them for the future, reminding them that knowledge and competence are powerful tools for impact.

Secondly, he challenged the youths to become people who create employment rather than only seeking it. He urged them to shift their mindset from dependency to innovation, from waiting to creating opportunities. In this, he warned against stagnation, emphasizing that stagnation is not permitted in the life of a believer. He called them to move from stagnation into a life of faith, where they trust God enough to take bold steps forward.

The Bishop further gave key principles for anyone who desires to truly launch deeper. He urged them to embrace obedience over experience, noting that sometimes God’s direction may not align with what they already know, but obedience opens doors to greater purpose. He encouraged them to step out of their comfort zones, explaining that growth never happens in places of convenience. Additionally, he advised them to intentionally associate with mentors and peers who inspire growth, as the people around you greatly influence the direction of your life.

In conclusion, Bishop Omangi called upon the youths to rise, take responsibility, and intentionally launch deeper in their faith, education, and personal development. He reminded them that God has placed great potential within them, and it is only through bold steps, obedience, and continuous growth that they will fully realize their purpose.

The second speaker was Dr. Zipporah Matheri, a seasoned mental health specialist with vast experience in youth mentorship, emotional wellness and personal development. With a strong passion for guiding young people, she has consistently helped them navigate the complexities of life by understanding their inner selves and building mental resilience.

In her session, Dr. Matheri addressed the topic of youth mental health and self-awareness, anchoring her teaching on Matthew 16:13, where Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” She used this scripture to introduce the deeper question of identity, challenging the youths with, “How do you know yourself?” She explained that just as Jesus led His disciples into deeper revelation about His identity, every young person is called to go beyond surface-level living and launch deeper into understanding who they truly are.

Connecting her message to the theme of “Launching Deeper,” she emphasized that growth in life is not found on the surface but in intentional self-examination. Many young people, she noted, live based on external opinions, peer pressure, and societal expectations, yet true transformation begins when one goes deeper within. Launching deeper means confronting your true thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and allowing God to shape your identity from within.

She defined mental health as the way we think, feel, and react to different situations, explaining that it is revealed through behavior, speech, and emotional responses. She pointed out that these outward expressions are indicators of what is happening internally and unless one goes deeper to address the root, lasting change cannot occur.

Dr. Matheri stressed the importance of self-awareness as a key step in launching deeper. Knowing yourself helps you identify areas that need improvement, regulate your emotions, and make wise decisions. She encouraged the youths to accept constructive criticism as a tool for growth, explaining that feedback helps reveal blind spots that we may not see on our own.

She further urged them to practice self-reflection, taking time to evaluate their lives honestly. Launching deeper requires intentional pauses to ask difficult questions about one’s character, habits, and direction. She also encouraged them to seek to understand their personality, as this provides clarity on how they relate with others and respond to different situations.

To guide them practically, she introduced the SWOT analysis tool identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. She explained that launching deeper involves embracing your strengths, working on your weaknesses, seizing opportunities for growth, and being aware of threats that may hinder progress.

In conclusion, Dr. Matheri called upon the youths to move beyond superficial living and intentionally launch deeper into self-awareness and mental wellness. She reminded them that true growth begins within, and by understanding themselves better, they are able to live purposefully, manage their emotions and align their lives with God’s calling.

Today in the morning at ACK St. Philip’s Cathedral, Kisii, the Diocesan Youth Rally began with a powerful session of worship and praise as attendees ushered in the first speaker, Bro. Stanley Otieno ,a dedicated young Christian leader, student at Kisii University, and Chairperson of the University Christian Union. Passionate about youth ministry, he continues to inspire young people to grow deeper in their faith, step out of their comfort zones, and fully utilize the gifts God has given them.

In his sermon, based on the theme “Launching Deeper” from Luke 5:4, Bro. Otieno expounded on the story of Jesus and Peter the fisherman. He explained how Peter and his fellow fishermen had labored all night without catching anything. Despite their experience and effort, they ended in frustration, exhaustion, and disappointment, and by morning they were washing their nets ready to give up.

It was at this very moment that Jesus stepped into Peter’s boat and asked him to push a little from the shore so He could teach the crowd. After teaching, Jesus gave a profound instruction: “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” Though this seemed illogical since fishing was best done at night and Peter had already failed Peter chose obedience, responding, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing, nevertheless at your word I will let down the net.”

Through this act of faith, a great miracle happened. They caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break, and they had to call others to assist them. This demonstrated that when God steps into our situations and we obey His voice, He can turn emptiness into abundance.

Bro. Otieno emphasized several key lessons: that God meets us in our moments of failure and frustration; that He uses what we already have a just as Peter had his nets and boat; and that obedience to God, even when it does not make sense, leads to breakthrough. He challenged the youth to ask themselves, “What do you have?” and to surrender it for God’s use.

He further encouraged them to go beyond their comfort zones, noting that the shallow is safe but the deep requires faith and courage. He reminded them that the Lord is their strength and that achieving greater things requires sacrifice, commitment, and persistence. Nothing precious comes easily, and there is no room for relaxation or complacency when pursuing God’s purpose.

He concluded by urging the youth to “launch into the deep,” trust God fully, and remain steadfast, knowing that true growth and impact come when one is willing to go further than the ordinary.
