Bishop Dr Matthew Monde

Bishop Dr Matthew Monde is a Kenyan Pentecostal bishop, evangelist, church planter, and respected father in the faith, known for his deep passion for soul-winning, uncompromising gospel preaching, Christian maturity, and practical ministry. He is the Founder and Presiding Bishop of Redeemed Evangelistic Fellowship (REF), a ministry rooted in evangelism, discipleship, revival, and the raising of mature believers for the work of God.

Born in 1952 in Chepkoya village, Tiriki, Vihiga County, Kenya, Bishop Monde came from humble beginnings. He was raised in a large family of twelve children within the Luhya community, speaking both Tiriki and Maragoli dialects. His early life was marked by poverty and hardship, but also by the strong influence of a hardworking and devout mother who attended the Pentecostal Assemblies of God church. Due to financial challenges, his formal education was limited, yet he developed practical skills in carpentry, painting, and electrification, which later became useful in ministry.

His life took a defining turn in 1976, when he gave his life to Christ in the Mathare slums of Nairobi during a crusade led by Bishop Arthur Kitonga, the founder of Redeemed Gospel Church, together with a Tanzanian evangelist. That encounter with God ignited in him a lifelong burden for the lost and a passion for evangelism. From that point, Bishop Monde became deeply involved in crusades, open-air meetings, follow-up ministry, and church planting.

He served faithfully under Bishop Arthur Kitonga and became actively involved in the growth of Redeemed Gospel Church. His ministry was not only spiritual but also practical. He helped plant churches and build ministry infrastructure, including pulpits, seats, fencing, and tents in areas such as Huruma, Korogocho, Githurai, and other communities. His hands-on approach reflected a servant’s heart and a willingness to do whatever was necessary for the advancement of the gospel.
