WRONG MINDSET LEADS TO WRONG THINKING!
The attached statement by Papa Lai has sparked a serious discussion on the internet and social media today because many people approach certain subjects in Christian doctrine with an already formed opinion. They want to hear what's in their own minds not the intended message by the speaker...
But I think many people are missing the main point.
Pastor Lai was not talking about figures here. He was talking about the intent of the heart when we are giving to God. His message is simple...Giving should be intentional...that's where the comparison comes.
Most people budget for their own needs after receiving their income. Very few believers deliberately budget for their giving to God.
You see, the Bible says that it is God who gives us the ability to create wealth. The fact that I have a sound mind, talents, abilities and an opportunity to build a career and earn a living is already a reason to give back to God INTENTIONALLY in appreciation to what he has done to me. I've seen believers pray to God for open career doors and once the doors open, they forget completely the cry they were making to God... Their money becomes theirs until the next season of suffering is when the will remember God. If a believer is struggling with the whole idea of giving, then there is still a deeper understanding of Christ and stewardship that they need to learn doctrinally.
Pastor Lai has also stood the test of time. When money became a major issue around many pulpits in Kenya, he remained focused on his calling. His eyes have always been on the ball. So perhaps before we judge his statement, we should first ask whether we have understood what he was actually addressing.
The Bible is clear that giving is not simply about the amount. Jesus noticed the widow who gave two small coins because of what that giving represented to God in her heart. Someone can give one million in whatever currency and remain with nothing, while another can give ten thousand shillings and remain with half a million, and the two gifts can have very different impacts in the sight of God. Am I saying that we should drain our accounts and bring everything to the altar? No. Just as I would not say that we should give coins to God. The issue is not simply the amount, but what that giving represents in our hearts before God.
So the real question is not simply, “How much am I giving?” It is, “How intentional is my giving?”
Do I plan what I will give, or do I only decide when Sunday comes? Because that's what most believers do.
And this is why I believe the key question is NOT what Pastor Lai meant. It is what he DIDN'T MEAN in that statement because if we miss this truth, we gonna struggle along with his statement.
If you love the truth that sets free, let's share this truth. Help me share on your pages.
