COUNTING THE COST
(Luke 14:25–33)

1️⃣ WHOEVER HATES…

Following Jesus means loving Him above everyone else.

❣️ Our love for God must be so strong that every other relationship takes second place.

❣️ Whatever we refuse to surrender can reveal what occupies the highest place in our heart.

2️⃣ WHOEVER DOESN’T CARRY HIS CROSS… AND FOLLOW ME

Carrying the cross is carrying a torture.

❣️ Bearing a cross meant one was about to die, and that one would face ridicule and disgrace along the way.

(Matthew 16:25–26)

“𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗦𝗧”
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟭

💭WHAT WILL I HAVE TO GIVE UP?

💭WHAT WILL IT COST ME IF I DISOBEY GOD?

1️⃣ 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞𝗦 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚.
(1 KINGS 3:3) “Now Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of his father David, EXCEPT that he was sacrificing and burning incense on the high places.”

💁🏻‍♂️Solomon loved God genuinely, but there were areas where his obedience was incomplete.

𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧
💭I want God, except….

𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗘 feels harmless because we only see what it costs us right now.

💭Where could this lead?

2️⃣ 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗪𝗦 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗜𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗗.
(1 KINGS 11:4) “For when Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away to follow other gods; and his heart was not wholly devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of his father David had been.”
(1 KINGS 11:9-10) “Now the Lord was angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, and had commanded him regarding this thing, that he was not to follow other gods; but he did not comply with what the Lord had commanded.”

💁🏻‍♂️We don’t suddenly pull away from the Lord, we drift.

💁🏻‍♂️Sin grows through repeated decisions, tolerated habits, and areas we continually refuse to surrender.

(1 KINGS 16:31) “And as though it had been a TRIVIAL THINGS for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he married Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him.”

💁🏻‍♂️COMPROMISE NEVER WANTS TO REMAIN A COMPROMISE. IT WANTS TO BECOME NORMAL.

3️⃣ 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗖𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗦 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡 𝗪𝗘 𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗗.
(JAMES 1:14-15) “Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.”

💁🏻‍♂️You may choose the compromise, but you do not always get to choose its consequences.
💁🏻‍♂️What starts privately can eventually affect families, relationships, ministries, churches and future generations.

(ROMANS 6:23) “For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

💁🏻‍♂️Sin promises pleasures, comfort, acceptance, success or control.

BUT SIN ALWAYS SENDS A BILL.👈🏻

💁🏻‍♂️Jesus paid the price for sin that we could never pay ourselves.

👉🏻GRACE is not CHEAP!

💭Solomon loved the Lord…. EXCEPT.
💭WHAT IS YOUR EXCEPT?
💭WHAT ARE YOU UNWILLINGLY TO SURRENDER BECAUSE YOU ARE AFRAID OBEDIENCE COST TOO MUCH?

𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗪𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗝𝗘𝗦𝗨𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗡?

1️⃣𝑻𝑼𝑹𝑵.(1𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒔 1:9) Turned away from idols.
WHAT IS AN IDOL?
👉🏻anything that receives the allegiance, dependence or devotion that belongs to God.

‭‭💁🏻‍♂️Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:5
“You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.”

2️⃣𝑺𝑬𝑹𝑽𝑬.(1𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒔 1:9) To served the living and true God.
💁🏻‍♂️We were once controlled by sin. Now we belong to God as His children, and willingly offer ourselves to Him for righteous living.
(ROMANS 6:15-23) old self vs. new self

3️⃣𝑾𝑨𝑰𝑻.(1𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒔 1:10) And to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is, Jesus who rescues us from the wrath to come.
(PHILIPPIANS 3:20) Eagerly waiting.
💁🏻‍♂️while waiting we stay godly.
💁🏻‍♂️waiting faithfully.
💁🏻‍♂️serving and waiting goes together
(MATTHEW 25:15-30)

Closing verse:
“You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word during great affliction with the joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place the news of your faith toward God has gone out, so that we have no need to say anything.”

💭ARE WE LIVING READY?

So, Fam. May we continually TURN away from anything that takes God’s rightful place in our hearts, SERVE Him with wholehearted devotion, and WAIT for Christ with hope, faithfulness, and joyful expectation.

Let’s live each day in a state of readiness, not just knowing that Jesus is coming back, but living in a way that reflects Him until He comes.
