A HEAVENLY HOMECOMING
In Loving Memory of His Holiness Pope Francis
(Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 1936–2025)
Today, we bow our heads in prayer and reverence as we mourn the earthly departure of His Holiness Pope Francis, a true shepherd of peace, a voice for the voiceless, and a reflection of Christ’s mercy in our times.
Born on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was the son of Italian immigrants. With a heart devoted to service and simplicity, he joined the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1958 and was ordained a priest in 1969. Known for his pastoral heart, deep intellect, and compassion for the poor, he rose steadily within the Church and was appointed Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998, later becoming a Cardinal in 2001.
On March 13, 2013, he was elected as the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, making history as the first Pope from the Americas, the first Jesuit Pope, and the first to take the name “Francis”, inspired by Saint Francis of Assisi — a man known for humility, peace, and love for creation.
Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis led the world not only with doctrine but with deeds. He championed mercy over judgment, inclusion over division, and love over fear. His messages echoed beyond the walls of the Vatican — calling on all humanity to care for the earth, welcome the refugee, uplift the poor, and walk together as brothers and sisters.
Even as the world grew louder with division, he remained a calming presence, reminding us:
“The name of God is Mercy.”
Today, as he completes his earthly pilgrimage, we remember him not just as a pope, but as a servant — a man who walked with the people and pointed them to God.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
— 2 Timothy 4:7
“Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.’”
— Revelation 14:13
As heaven receives this faithful soul, let us honor his memory by living the Gospel he so boldly proclaimed — with kindness, humility, and unwavering love.
Rest in peace, Pope Francis.
Your life was a prayer. Your legacy is a blessing.
