MEMORIAL MASS (MWANZA)

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

With deep sorrow, the Diocese announces the passing of four beloved Sisters and a Catechist, who tragically lost their lives in a car accident.

We invite all the faithful to join in the solemn celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the repose of their souls.

The Mass will be presided over by Rev. Michael Msonganzila, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Musoma, at the Cathedral of the Lord’s Transfiguration, Bugando.

Let us unite in prayer, commending our departed Sisters and Catechist to the mercy of God, and seeking consolation for their families, religious communities, and the entire Church.

Pray:
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

BREAKING NEWS:

THE CATHOLIC ARCHDIOCESE OF MWANZA, Tanzania

Reverend Fathers, Deacons, Religious Men and Women, and all the Faithful of the Archdiocese,

Praised be Jesus Christ, now and forever. Amen.

With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of four beloved Sisters of the Congregation of the Carmelite Missionaries of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, together with their driver. They lost their lives following a tragic car accident that occurred last night at around 11:00 p.m. in Bukumbi, Mwanza Region, as they were on their way to Mwanza Airport for a journey to Dar es Salaam.

Those who have gone before us into eternal rest are:

1. Sr. Lilian Kapongo (55) – Superior General of the Congregation

2. Sr. Nerina Simeon (60) – Secretary General of the Congregation, Italian national

3. Sr. Damaris Matheka (51) – Headmistress of Bukumbi Girls’ Secondary School

4. Sr. Stellamaris Muthini (48) – Sister, Kenyan national

5. Mr. Boniface Msonola (53) – Driver

The Sisters had attended the Perpetual Vows of three of their fellow Sisters in Kahama on Saturday. Yesterday, they began their journey from Kahama to Mwanza, and on their way from Bukumbi to the airport, they were involved in this fatal accident.

The only survivor is Sr. Pauline Mipata (20), Matron of Bukumbi Girls’ Secondary School. However, she sustained severe injuries and is currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Bugando Hospital.

That the Lord of mercy may grant eternal rest to the loss.

That the Lord may comfort the Sisters of the Congregation, their families, and the entire Church in this heavy loss.

🌙 Night Prayer for Protection, Faith, and Successful Dreams

Heavenly Father,

As this day comes to a close, I bow before You in gratitude. Thank You for the gift of life, for Your unending grace, and for walking with me through every moment. Tonight, I surrender myself to Your perfect care and divine protection.

Lord, cover me and my loved ones with Your mighty hand. Surround our home with heavenly angels to guard us from every danger, evil plan, and unseen trap of the enemy. Let no harm come near our dwelling, for You are our refuge and fortress.

Strengthen my faith, O God. Help me to trust You more deeply, even when I do not understand what lies ahead. Remove every doubt, fear, and worry from my heart, and fill me with unshakable confidence in Your promises. Build in me a spirit of endurance and power.

As I close my eyes, I ask for peaceful and purposeful dreams,dreams filled with Your light, wisdom, and direction. Speak to my heart while I sleep, reveal divine strategies for success, and awaken me with clarity and joy.

I declare that I am protected, I am blessed, and I am being shaped for greatness by Your hands. Let tomorrow bring good news, favor, and progress according to Your will.

Pope Leo XIV receives the Ring of the Fisherman, or Piscatory Ring, from Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, during the Mass of Inauguration of his pontificate in St. Peter's Square on Sunday, May 18.
