Young Lasallian groups in secondary schools and colleges/universities are known as Lasallian Youth and Lasallian Collegians

, respectively. Following in the footsteps of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, himself an innovator in his time, Young Lasallians display a bold creativity in the world of today. They commit themselves to a multitude of service projects, whether in favor of the poor, children and young people, education, the environment or any need inspired by the Lasallian mission and spirit. Young Lasallians are constructing agents of a world of love, who act in association with the Lasallian Family and in collaboration with all persons and groups of good will. And so closes another successful Midwest Lasallian Youth Assembly! This year, 30 students from 7 different high schools gathered in Memphis, TN to embrace the theme and practice of being “Ambassadors and Ministers of Justice.” From June 12-17 these Lasallian Youth engaged with the citizens of Memphis through senior care, early childhood, Catholic Charities and food drive service work. Students were also able to to learn more about the Civil Rights Movement by visiting three renowned Civil Rights museums. Students are encouraged to take this experience back home to be ambassadors and ministers of Jesus through their own social justice advocacy!

Spring is here, Mother’s Day is around the corner and our Spring & Mother’s Day fundraiser has launched! From today through May 8, when you purchase lovingly handmade fair trade gifts, 25% of sales will support grassroots programs that provide girls and women access to an education. Through its grants, LWH delivers creative, effective and durable solutions to educational inequities for girls and women in countries including Kenya, Papua New Guinea, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Africa and Haiti.

What a gift it was to represent the Midwest District at the 4th International Symposium of Young Lasallians in Rome, Italy. It was an experience I will never forget, as it truly made our global mission a reality to me. Attendees are charged with a big responsibility to bring back what we learned to our Districts, and I promise to do just that!
