So gird the loins of your understanding;
1 Peter

In today’s Office of Readings, this phrase from the first letter of Peter struck me. A physical journey requires preparation to be successful, and that includes ‘girding one’s loins.’ Peter thus implies that ‘understanding’ is a journey - not a destination - and we must therefore prepare ourselves for that sojourn by preparing our minds and hearts, to be ready for the exertion that we’ll encounter, to traverse the wondrous terrain of discovery of God’s revelation and relationship.

He is risen indeed, alleluia alleluia.

We showed up early since we were on our way back from Montepulciano (yes, we bought a bottle of Nobili) and they greeted us more than hospitably. Antipasto plate and frizoli with the house Rossi. Tutto bene!

“Dignity” the statue.

I don't know why this hasn't received more publicity, but this new fifty-foot sculpture was unveiled in South Dakota. It's called 'Dignity' & was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation. ❤ Source: Gath

So, yes, we buried my Mom on Tuesday after engaging in the Rite of Christian Burial as prescribed by the Catholic Church. My brother, Deacon Michael Hiner, was soooo helpful with all things having to do with her final years and days. She died peacefully in her sleep on 30 October; a blessing and a relief.
