Now that the Holy Triad has recovered from ill health, it's time for them to look fresh and give darshan. The Datta paint the faces of the deities with colours. This ritual is called ‘banaka lagi’. For the White colour, the Datta grinds certain sankha (shells), whereas to obtain the Black colour, they burn rasi tela (sesame oil) and then collect the soot that results from it. To arrive at the yellow colour, they make use of a stone called 'haritala'. To get the red colour they utilise hingula (vermilion). All these substances produce the basic pigments which are mixed with karpura (camphor), kasturi (musk) and kesara (saffron) and are then processed to form a paste. The main period of painting is during the Anabasara (illness), because after the different body parts are renewed by the Daita, the faces of the Gods have to painted afresh. The first darshan We get after this process of called the Naba Joubana Darshan.

'Niladri Bije', the last ritual of the grand Rath Yatra will be celebrated today. As part of this divine occasion, Gods will be moved from the chariots to the Ratna Simhasana. This ritual is quite interesting because of the anger of Maa Lakshmi. It is believed that Maa Lakshmi is angry with Shree Jagannath who goes to the Gundicha Temple with his siblings for a day, and returns after a week. In spite of her visit on Hera Panchami, He did not expedite his return journey.
Today, the Gods will be taken in Goti Pahandi to the RatnabSimhasana. First Shree Sudarshan, then Shree Balabhadra, Maa Subhadra and finally Shree Jagannath. The first three deities will be allowed inside the sanctum, but as soon as Shree Jagannath arrives, Maa Lakshmi's servitors will close doors of the temple on him. This is in response to Jagannath's servitors closing the gates of Gundicha Temple. Then a heated argument ensues between the servitors of the two Gods. Mostly. It will appear as if Shree Jagannath is trying to make his way into the temple, first by arguments and then by pacifying the Goddess. In the end, when no other idea works, Shree Jagannath sends Rosogolla and flower garland to please Maa Lakshmi. The Rosogollas pleases Maa Lakshmi and she allows Shree Jagannath into the temple. Fireworks and celebrations follow, to mark the return of the Gods into their own temple.
Today, Odias and Jagannath Premis around the world are celebrating . You too can have one and be a part of the celebration.

Today is Deva Snana Yatra.

Today is Jyestha Purnima, celebrated as Deva Snana Yatra at Shree Jagannath Temple. This is a very important festival in chain of events leading to the Rath Yatra.

Deva Snana Yatra the bathing ceremony of the deities. The three deities alongwith Sudarsana and Madanamohana are brought out from the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) of the Temple and taken in a traditional procession calledPahandi and placed on the Snanabedi (bathing platform) situated in the northeast corner of the Bahara Bedha (outer enclosure). This is the first occasion in the year when the large and heavy wooden images of the deities are brought out of the Garbhagriha to the Snanabedi. There, the deities are bathed with 108 pitchers of water from a well called Suna Kuan (Golden well) near the uttara dwara (north gate). Water from this sacred well is used only once in a year during the Snana Yatra of the deities. The usual daily rituals continue thereafter in the Snanabedi. After the Snana Yatra, the deities are dressed like Lord Ganesha (the elephant god) who bears the head of an elephant. That is why this besha is also known as Hati Besha. At night, the deities return to the Temple in a procession and the deities, except Madanamohana, are placed in a place called Anasara pindi. They remain there unseen, secluded and unexposed to public view.

Today is Phuluri Tela lagi of the ailing deities hibernating in the Anabasara griha. This is a herbal treatment applied to the ailing deities by the Daitapatis.
This is a special Seasame oil mixed with a wide range of natural elements mainly fragrant flowers, herbs n roots such as Ketaki,Malli,Juee,Boula,Champa,Kia,Bena chera,Sandalwood powder,Camphor etc.All these things are mingled with hand crushed Seasame oil n kept in an earthen pot and then buried under the soil since last year's Hera Panchami(Aashada sukla Panchami) and left to brew under the soil for nearly a year.
On this day,the Mahanta Maharaj of Bada Odia Math,Puri remove the earthen pot from the soil n filter the Seasame oil in a very sacred manner n send to the Temple for messaging to the ailing deities. Every year
nearly 4 seras(kgs) of this herbal oil supplied by the Bada Odia Math,Puri. The scholarship are of opinion that the right to supply Phuluri tela(oil) was given by the Gajapati Purushottam Deba.Ati badi Jagannath Das ,who happens to be one of the inmates of the Math, was engaged in preparing the Phuluri oil during the early years.
This is an essential ancient method of treatment for viral infections also applicable to human beings .Jai Jagannath.
1)Mahanta Maharaj,Bada Odia Math, with his aide filter the oil.
2)The Math attendants carrying the Phuluri Tela in two earthen pots on their way to temple.

Unfazed by threat, servitors open the Jagannath Temple's Singhadwar (main entrance) around 4.45 am on Friday. Not many would have seen the shrine's first daily ritual - 'Dwarafita'.

The ‘Raghunath Besha’, one of the rarest Beshas of Lord Jagannath, will be held at Srimandir here after 115 years in 2020.

In Raghunath Besha, Lord Jagannath appears like Lord Ram holding a bow in his courtroom with his siblings. Lord Ram’s siblings Bharat, Laxman, Shatrughna and his devotees Hanuman, Narad and several other idols of deities including Indra, Brahma, Kubera, Nairuta and Vashishta are seen together in the royal court. His devotees Sugreeva, Jambavana, Nala, Nila, Sushena, Angada, Hanuman, Vibhisana are seen standing near the deities.

The Raghunath Besha is conducted only on the day when Lord Rama’s coronation ceremony falls in the month of Vaishakha.

According to Srimandir Record of Rights, Madala Panji and other sources, the Raghunath Besha was first held in the year 1577. Later, it was conducted in 1739, 1809, 1833, 1842, 1893, 1896 and 1905.

The Besha is also called Shringara Besha as the precious jewelries are used to decorate the deities.

On 13th May 1978, the inner Ratna Bhandar of Shree Jagannath Temple was opened to make a record of all the ornaments. It took 70 days to complete the task. Phew!
