This group is a Christian male voice quartet.
It started as an evening discussion point back in the Fall of 2009, when a few of the quartet members were chatting one evening over coffee. Tamilnadu Christian circles in general and Coimbatore in particular have had quite a few male quartet groups (CSI Christ Church Gandhipuram under Thambu Tharyan, TELC Church under Franklin, St. Marks Quartet Group under Frederick Nirmal to name a few prominent ones) before that but none of them had been active for a few years in 2009. So the members in discussion (Jeffrie, Kevin & Joysen) decided to give this idea a form and invited Prince & Vimal to join the group. The different parts were assigned to the members based on voice auditioning. The group was formed under Kevin Ragland’s leadership and assumed the name ‘The Hummers Quartet’ with the first practice session held at his house in August of 2009 in Podanur (suburb of Coimbatore). Joysen Augustine, Vimal Dorairaj, Jeffrie Joshua and Prince Prem sang 1st Tenor, 2nd Tenor, 1st Bass and 2nd Bass respectively. They sang for God’s glory in a few churches during the advent season and in the days leading up to it. They were invited to worship God through their singing at CSI Robertson Centenary Memorial Church – Sulur, Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church – Coimbatore and St. Marks Church – Podanur. Some of the memorable songs were ‘It came upon the midnight clear’, ‘Go Tell it on the mountains’, and ‘Just a little talk with Jesus’. The group had to temporarily disband as members of the group moved to different cities/countries for their work careers in the Summer of 2010. During the COVID -19 pandemic in the summer of 2020 while the group members were in their respective homes the idea came up of recording a song virtually. They decided to restart the group.
