Govt Playing Blame Game’: Hakeem Yaseen on Sidra Bulldozer Controversy

Says affected tribal families were not informed before demolition action

Demands rehabilitation and compensation for families ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

Questions government’s “double standards” and calls for accountability over Sidra drive

Srinagar, May 22: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) President and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Friday termed the recent bulldozer action against tribal families in Sidra as “highly unfortunate,” saying the move was against both humanity and the law.

In a statement issued here, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen said that even in cases involving accused persons or alleged violators, the law requires prior notice and due process before any action is taken. However, he said, in the Sidra case, the affected families were allegedly not informed in advance and were left devastated after the demolition drive.

He said the incident has now turned into a political blame game, with different wings of the government passing responsibility onto each other instead of owning accountability for the action. “One section of the government claims it has no knowledge about who ordered or carried out the demolition, while another is talking about forming committees and promising justice. This contradiction itself raises serious questions,” he said.

Hakeem said the ruling government cannot selectively distance itself from actions that have sparked public outrage. “When something positive happens, the government takes full credit for it, but when something negative takes place, they try to disown responsibility. The government cannot have double standards on such sensitive matters,” he remarked.

The PDF President expressed concern over the plight of the affected tribal families, especially elderly persons, women and children, who he said are facing immense hardship after the demolition drive. He added that many families have been rendered shelterless and are living under distressing conditions.

Calling for immediate humanitarian intervention, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen urged the administration to ensure rehabilitation of all affected families before Eid-ul-Azha. “With the festival approaching, these families are suffering emotionally and financially. The government must act without delay to provide them relief, compensation and proper rehabilitation,” he said.

He further appealed to the administration to adopt a humane and lawful approach while dealing with issues concerning poor and marginalized communities, particularly tribal families, and ensure that justice is delivered in a transparent and fair manner.

Enough of Blame Game, Focus on People’s Welfare: PDF President Hakeem Yaseen

Says government must fulfil promises, opposition should play constructive role

Welcomes Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, calls for jobs, development and action beyond slogans in J&K

Srinagar, May 07:President of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and former Cabinet Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Thursday said that the ongoing blame game between the JKNC and PDP over various issues is not in the interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the people have given a clear mandate to the elected government, while the opposition also has a vital responsibility to play a constructive role by highlighting genuine public issues and bringing ground realities before the government.

“The opposition should expose the real issues confronting the people and convince the government to address them instead of indulging in political confrontation and blame game,” he said.

Addressing the various youth delegations from various parts of Budgam, Hakeem Yaseen further stated that the government must fulfil the promises made to the people and avoid unnecessary political rhetoric, saying that failure to deliver on commitments amounts to betrayal of public trust.

He expressed concern over rising unemployment among youth and said lack of opportunities has pushed many young people towards frustration, depression and social evils. He stressed the need for a comprehensive employment policy, promotion of entrepreneurship, tourism, agriculture and skill-based industries to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities to the youth.

While welcoming the government’s “100 Days Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan” against drug abuse, he urged the administration to take stronger and practical steps to eradicate the growing menace of drugs from society.

“Drug addiction is becoming a serious threat to our younger generation. It needs collective efforts from the government, families, social organisations, religious scholars and civil society,” he said.

The PDF President said political parties should move beyond hollow slogans and emotional politics and focus on development and governance.

“Since 1947, people have heard enough slogans and political promises. The time has come to work sincerely for development, better healthcare, quality education, road connectivity, electricity, drinking water supply and economic growth,” he added.

He also stressed the need for transparency in governance, strengthening democratic institutions, improving public services and addressing day-to-day grievances of the people on priority basis.

Several delegations from different areas apprised him of issues including unemployment, electricity shortages, poor road connectivity, inflation, drinking water problems and inadequate healthcare facilities.

Hakeem Yaseen assured the delegations that their genuine concerns would be taken up with the concerned authorities for early redressal.
