Budgam, September 19:* President, Jammu & Kashmir People's Democratic Front (JKPDF) and former Cabinet Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen today said that Doodhpathri Tourist Resort was his dream project which he has nurtured since 1978.

Speaking to media at party office khanshaib Yaseen said, "Doodhpathri was my dream. I laid its foundation stone in 1978 and by the grace of Almighty Allah, we succeeded in developing it into one of the most beautiful and successfully running tourist destinations of Jammu and Kashmir."

On the issue of its reopening for tourists, the PDF President said he has vigorously taken up the matter at the highest level.

"I have met the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor several times in this regard. Doodhpathri was opened for some time, but in view of the prevailing situation, it has been kept on hold.for sometime he said

Hakeem Yaseen said he is in constant touch with the administration to ensure its early reopening.

"In this connection, I had detailed discussions with the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Director General of Police (DGP), Deputy Commissioner Budgam and SSP Budgam just yesterday and the day before. I am fully hopeful and confident that the administration will pay heed to this genuine public demand and Doodhpathri will be reopened soon for tourists," he added.

The former Minister emphasized that Doodhpathri is not only a prime tourist attraction but also the backbone of the local economy, providing livelihood to thousands of pony-wallahs, hoteliers, shopkeepers, transporters, guides and unemployed youth of the area.

"Its prolonged closure has badly affected the livelihood of thousands of poor families dependent on it. Its immediate reopening is in the interest of both tourism sector and the local population," Yaseen stressed, urging the LG administration to take an early decision in this regard.

Seeks Liver Transplant Facility for Poor Patients at SKIMS"

Srinagar, September 18, 2026:* President of Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Front (JKPDF) and former Cabinet Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has extended full support to the agitating NHM employees and urged the Government and LG Administration to resolve their genuine demands on a priority basis.

Addressing the media, Hakeem Yaseen said health and education are the most vital priority sectors and the Government must pay serious attention towards them.

"The demands of NHM employees are completely genuine and must be fulfilled without any further delay. Our health sector is already reeling under shortage of infrastructure and doctors, and the ongoing strike has further hit patient care badly. There should be no disruption in such a vital and life-saving sector," he said.

He said that while everyone expresses sympathy with the employees, it is only the Government which has the power to resolve the issue and it must act immediately keeping in view the precarious ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

At the same time, Hakeem Yaseen made a strong humanitarian appeal for establishing a dedicated Liver Transplant Unit at SKIMS, Soura.

He said liver-related diseases have assumed alarming proportions in Kashmir and are often detected at the last stage. Hundreds of poor patients are forced to go outside J&K for liver transplant, bearing huge expenses, and many die for want of timely treatment and financial resources.

"Our doctors are highly qualified and competent, but our health infrastructure is still not at par with other states. Poor patients cannot afford travel, prolonged stay and expensive treatment outside. An attempt was made a few years ago to create infrastructure for liver transplant at SKIMS, but it was stalled for unknown reasons," Hakeem Yaseen said.

"I strongly appeal to the Government to establish a dedicated Liver Transplant Unit at SKIMS, Soura on priority to save the precious lives of poor and helpless patients. Other small works can wait, but this life-saving facility is urgently needed," he added.

He expressed hope that the Government will pay serious and immediate attention to this critical humanitarian issue.

Srinagar, Sep 17: Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Front (PDF) President and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Thursday expressed concern over the growing burden of liver diseases in Jammu and Kashmir and urged the Union and J&K governments to establish a fully functional liver transplant facility in the region.

Hakeem Yaseen said patients suffering from advanced liver diseases, particularly those from economically weaker sections, are often compelled to travel outside Jammu and Kashmir for specialised treatment, placing a heavy financial and emotional burden on their families.

“Liver diseases have become a serious health concern in Jammu and Kashmir. Poor patients are among the worst affected as they are forced to travel outside the Union Territory for treatment, which involves huge expenses for travel, accommodation, medical procedures and prolonged follow-up,” Yaseen said.

He said the absence of a comprehensive liver transplant facility in J&K was creating a significant healthcare gap and called for urgent intervention to address it.

Hakeem Yaseen referred to earlier efforts at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) to establish a liver transplant programme, saying the initiative needs to be taken forward on a time-bound basis. SKIMS had in August 2024 held a comprehensive programme with leading liver-transplant experts to discuss a roadmap for starting the facility. The institute had said that the programme would require requisite infrastructure, protocols and a transplant licence.

“SKIMS is already a major tertiary-care institution and has the expertise and infrastructure to provide advanced medical services. A dedicated liver transplant programme should therefore be pursued with urgency so that patients from Jammu and Kashmir do not have to depend entirely on hospitals outside the region,” he said.

Hakeem Yaseen said the government should assess the actual burden of liver-related diseases in J&K and formulate a comprehensive strategy covering early diagnosis, specialised treatment, transplant services, post-transplant care and financial assistance for poor patients.

He also stressed the need to strengthen gastroenterology and hepatology services at government hospitals and improve referral mechanisms so that patients can receive timely treatment before their conditions become critical.
“The issue is not confined to transplantation alone.

There is a need to strengthen screening, diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases at different levels of the healthcare system. Early detection can save lives and also reduce the financial burden on families,” he said.

Hakeem Yaseen urged the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the J&K Health Minister Ms Sakina Itoo to jointly examine the issue and allocate adequate funds for establishing and operationalising a liver transplant programme.

He said the government should also consider providing dedicated financial assistance to economically weaker patients requiring advanced liver treatment and transplantation.

“People should not be forced to sell their property, borrow heavily or depend on public donations simply because a specialised treatment facility is not available within J&K,” Yaseen said.

He added that a functional liver transplant programme at SKIMS would not only reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region but would also strengthen J&K’s tertiary healthcare infrastructure and provide a major relief to families facing critical illnesses.

Hakeem Yaseen called for a coordinated approach involving health authorities, medical institutions and specialists to ensure that the long-pending requirement is addressed in a transparent and time-bound manner.

Srinagar, September 12: Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Front (JKPDF) president and former Cabinet Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Saturday urged the administration not to limit Kashmir’s tourism activity to only three destinations, saying places such as Tosamaidan, Yousmarg, Doodhpathri and other alpine areas must also be opened to promote tourism and protect the livelihoods of local people.

His remarks came as dozens of political workers and activists from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) joined the JKPDF in his presence in Khag block of Central Kashmir,'s Budgam . Various delegations also called on Hakeem and raised concerns over the continued closure of several tourism destinations and its impact on local employment and businesses.

Speaking on the occasion, Hakeem said the organisation of international events such as the International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir was a positive development and could help boost tourism in the Valley.

“It is our good fortune that international events like the film festival are being held in Kashmir. Such initiatives are a positive step and can help increase tourism. But unfortunately, many of our major tourism destinations continue to remain closed, directly affecting the livelihood and employment of local people,” he said.

Hakeem said tourism activity should not remain concentrated around Gulmarg, SKICC and Dal Lake while other scenic destinations remain inaccessible.

“We have limited our tourism to Gulmarg, SKICC and Dal Lake, while the rest of the destinations are closed. This has a negative impact on Kashmir and the people dependent on tourism,” he said.

He said the closure of destinations was directly affecting people dependent on tourism-related activities, including pony owners, shopkeepers, guides, transporters and other local businesses.

“Horse owners are sitting idle, shopkeepers are losing business and people associated with tourism are becoming hopeless. At a time when we want to increase employment, keeping these places closed adds to the unemployment rate and affects the local economy,” Hakeem said.

He appealed to the administration to review the situation and reopen tourism destinations wherever security and other conditions permit.

“While we are projecting Kashmir as a tourist destination, keeping several important places closed sends a negative message. The administration should review the situation and reopen these destinations so that tourism benefits people across the Valley,” he said.

Hakeem particularly called for consideration of reopening Tosamaidan, Yousmarg, Doodhpathri and other suitable alpine tourism destinations, saying a wider tourism circuit would create more employment opportunities and ensure that the benefits of tourism reach local communities across the Valley.

He said expanding tourism beyond the three established destinations would support local businesses and provide greater economic opportunities to people dependent on the sector.

Why should young doctors be forced to protest and go on hunger strike in a democracy?

Srinagar, September 7: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) President and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Monday came down heavily on the government over its failure to resolve the long-pending demand of MBBS and BDS intern doctors in Jammu & Kashmir, saying the administration must stop delaying the issue and immediately fulfil their genuine and legitimate demand for enhancement of stipend.

Yaseen said the demand of medical interns is neither related to statehood nor any other major political issue that the government cannot address. “This is a basic and genuine demand of young medical professionals. Why should they be forced to protest or sit on hunger strike to get their legitimate issues resolved?” he asked.

He said it was deeply unfortunate that medical interns, after spending years pursuing professional medical education and undergoing rigorous training, continue to receive a meagre stipend of ₹12,300 per month.

“Even casual labourers are getting more wages than medical interns. These young doctors work for long hours, perform emergency duties and shoulder crucial responsibilities in hospitals, but their stipend remains disproportionately low,” Yaseen said.

He said the interns have sought an enhancement of their monthly stipend to ₹30,000, describing it as a reasonable and justified demand in view of their workload, responsibilities and the rising cost of living.

Yaseen questioned the need for prolonged protests and hunger strikes to make the government listen to such a basic grievance. He said in a democracy, people should not have to repeatedly take to the streets or put their health at risk to get routine and legitimate issues addressed.

“It is a matter of serious concern that young doctors have to resort to protests and even hunger strikes before the government pays attention to their genuine demands. Is this how issues are supposed to be resolved in a democracy? The administration must have mechanisms to listen to employees and professionals and resolve their grievances without forcing them into agitation,” he said.

Yaseen urged the government to demonstrate sensitivity and political will by issuing a formal order on the stipend enhancement without any further delay.

He said continued inaction could further deepen the sense of frustration among medical interns, who are already working under demanding conditions in hospitals across Jammu & Kashmir.

The PDF President appealed to the administration to treat the matter as a genuine employment and welfare concern of young medical professionals rather than allowing it to become a prolonged confrontation.

He said the government must initiate meaningful dialogue and take an immediate decision to resolve the issue, asserting that the legitimate concerns of medical interns should be addressed through governance and dialogue, not only after protests and hunger strikes.

Srinagar, Sep 03: Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Front (PDF) President and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Thursday accused the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of playing with the emotions of the people by creating “unnecessary drama” around the issue of restoration of statehood.

Yaseen said the people of Jammu and Kashmir want statehood with dignity, constitutional guarantees and respect, and not as a political slogan or electoral tool.

“People need statehood with dignity. They do not need political parties to repeatedly exploit their emotions in the name of statehood. The people have been hearing such promises and political rhetoric for decades,” Yaseen said.

He said that while restoration of statehood remains an important aspiration of the people, it should not be used to divert attention from issues that directly affect their daily lives.

“Unemployment should be the first priority. Our educated youth are desperately looking for jobs and opportunities. Instead of engaging in political blame games, the government and political parties should come forward with a concrete employment policy,” he said.

Yaseen called for immediate steps to fill vacant government posts and promote employment in the private sector, tourism, agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts, small industries and entrepreneurship.

He said the government must also focus on improving healthcare, education, roads, electricity, drinking water and other essential public services.

“The youth want jobs, students want quality education, patients want better healthcare, farmers and fruit growers want remunerative markets, and traders want a conducive business environment. These concerns cannot be ignored in the name of political theatrics,” he said.

Yaseen said all political parties should rise above narrow political interests and work towards restoring public confidence through transparent governance, accountability and development.

He maintained that statehood should ultimately empower the people and restore their sense of dignity, participation and constitutional confidence.

“Jammu and Kashmir needs statehood with dignity, democracy with accountability and development with justice. The people should not be treated merely as a vote bank or an audience for political slogans,” Yaseen said.
