Report of the Seminar on โHearts burning within us: Learning discernment from Ignatius & his first companionsโ from 6th to 9th August, 2026
Just as St. Ignatius travelled from Spain to Paris and gathered around him his first companions and thus began the journey of the Society of Jesus, similarly, Fr. Rolphy Pinto SJ, Professor of Spirituality at Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome travelled all the way to Pedro Arrupe Institute, Raia, Goa to set the hearts of the fourteen people on fire, who had generously volunteered to attend the seminar, โHearts burning within us: Learning discernment from Ignatius & his first companionsโ from 6th to 9th August. The participants included two priests, one nun & the rest lay people coming from as far as Darjeeling. Through the use of PowerPoint presentations, scriptural passages, references from the Autobiography of Ignatius, anecdotes, and videos & movies, besides morning & evening prayer & Examen, Fr. Rolphy was able to inspire the participants to develop a deep interest in Ignatian spirituality and to grow in their spiritual journey. Besides the informative & interactive sessions, the participants gelled together & formed close bonds of friendship, especially seen in the fun-filled recreation after supper, where everyone let their hair down & participated with a lot of enthusiasm. They were full of praise for the seminar, which was well-planned, and the lovely ambience and the delicious food and went back with very happy memories.
