The Diocese of Darjeeling celebrated National Youth Day on August 8, 2026, at St. Augustineโs School, Kalimpong, under the inspiring theme, โTake Courage! I have overcome the worldโ (John 16:33). The celebration brought together around 800 young people from across the Diocese for a day of faith, fellowship and recognition.
The day began with the Holy Mass presided over by Most Rev. Stephen Lepcha, Bishop of Darjeeling and Chairman of the Diocesan Youth Commission, in the presence of Most Rev. Edward Baretto, Coadjutor Bishop, priests, religious, and the gathered youth. In his reflection, the Bishop encouraged the young people to remain courageous in their faith and to face the challenges of the world with hope in Christ.
A significant highlight of the celebration was the launch of the ICYM Theme Song, followed by the felicitation of the team behind its production. The gathering also honoured young achievers who had successfully pursued MBBS, PhD and NEET achievements, recognizing their dedication, perseverance and commitment to excellence.
The programme further included the presentation of reports by the Zonal Executive Committees (ZEXCOs) and the Diocesan Executive Committee (DEXCO), highlighting the various activities and initiatives undertaken by the youth across the Diocese.
The celebration served as a joyful reminder that the youth, strengthened by faith and united in Christ, are called to be courageous witnesses and builders of hope in the Church and society.
