According to the deep-rooted traditional belief of Syrian Christians, St.Thomas, the beloved Appostle of our Lord, came to Malankara in AD 52 to proclaim the word of God and His Kingdom to the people of this land. Tradition says that St.Thomas consecrated seven and a half churches in different places of the south-western stretch of India, the present land of Kerala. The presence of sm
all Christian settlements scattered along the western stretch in the first century can be historically traced through various evidences and traditional belief. One among the seven and a half churches was at Chayal, situated on the western ghats. In the fourth century, a group of people from Chayal had migrated to Kadampanad probably due to social and agricaltural demands.
