Gyudmed monastery

Gyudmed monastery welcome to Gyudmed Monastery Gyudmed Ta***ic Monastery was founded by Jetsun Sherab Senge, a well known scholar of the great ta***ic treatises.

The ta***ic teaching and practices were implemented, preserved and handed over to the next generation with much initiations. Gyudmed Monastery was one of the most popular monastery, specialized in the study of meditation, ta***ic rituals and Buddhist philosophy. The ta***ic ritual and studies were spread to the monastery not only in Tibet but also to its neighbouring countries too. Gyudmed Ta***ic

Monastery started with five hundred and fifty monks in Tibet. The monastery was in its height of progress, unfortunately, in 1959 with the national uprising against the Chinese invasion in Tibet, thousand of Tibetans were forced to leave Tibet. Many of the monks were killed and many were imprisoned and many were not able to traced. So, only few were able to flee to India. They were able to settle to Dhal-housie in north western part of Himachal Pradesh. Even in exile life, the monks remained dedicated themselves to the most important goal of preserving and promoting the traditional religious performance of rituals, teaching and meditations. As per the kind guidance and instruction from His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in 1972, Gyudmed Monastery moved to Tibetan refugee settlement in Karnataka state for re-settlement for one hundred and eighty monks. Here, the cultivation land was given to the monastery. It was used for growing seasonal crops. Simultaneously, the monks continued their studies in Buddhist philosophy and ta***ic studies. Consequently, the monastery started admission of new monks, to spread Buddhism. The monastery also opened “Snowland school of Tibetan studies” mainly for the students from all over the world to study Tibetan language and Buddhist philosophy. This school was opened as per with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama wishes in mind. Today, Gyudmed Monastery is able to constantly endeavouring to support itself freely in promoting and preserving the religious activities even in the life of exile. Therefore, Gyudmed Monastery own its deepest sense of gratitude and appreciation, first and foremost to the His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, government of India and its people and for all the unrepayable moral and material support received from friends and well wishers.
