It has been narrated from ‘Ali [Ibn Abi Talib] (peace be upon him) that he said, “Jibra’il descended to the Prophet (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) and said to him, ‘O’ Muhammad! Command your companions al-’Ajj and al-Thalj. The ‘Ajj is to raise your voice in pronouncing the Talbiyyah (Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk) out loud, while the Thalj is to slaughter an animal (on the day of ‘Eid).”

عَنْ عَلِيٍّ (ع) قَالَ: نَزَلَ جِبْرَئِيلُ عَلى النَّبِيِّ (ص) فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ مُرْ أَصْحَابَكَ بِالْعَجِّ وَ الثَّلْجِ، فَالْعَجُّ رَفَعُ الأَصْوَاتِ بِالتَّلْبِيَّةِ وَ الثَّلْجُ نَحْرُ الْبَدَنِ.

قالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ (صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ): لَيْسَ شَيْء أَشَدُّ عَلى الشَّيْطانِ مِنَ الْقِراءَةِ فِي الْمُصْحَفِ نَظَراً.

The Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) has said: “Nothing is harder for Satan to bear than a person who recites the Qur’an by looking at the pages (of the Qur’an).”

Imam Al-Baqir (peace be upon him) has said: “Islam has been founded and established on five things: Prayers, Zakat, Hajj, Sawm (Fasting) and Wilayah.”

قالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ (صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ): إِنَّ هذِهِ الْقُلُوبَ لِتَصْدَأُ كَما يَصْدَأُ الْحَـدِيدُ وَ إِنَّ جَلائَها قَراءَةُ الْقُرآنِ.

The Messenger of Allah (prayers of Allah be upon him and his family) has said: “These hearts rust just as iron rusts; and indeed they are polished through the recitation of the Qur’an.”

عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللٌّهِ (ع) قَالَ: مَنْ نَظَرَ إِلَى أَبَوَيْهِ نَظَرَ مَاقِتٍ وَ هُمَا ظَالِمَانِ لَهُ لَمْ يَقْبَلِ اللٌّهُ لَهُ صَلاَةً.

Imam as-Sadiq (peace be upon him) has said: “Allah shall not accept the prayers of a person who looks at his parents with hatred, even if they have been unfair to him!”
