A land of textiles.
The oldest cotton threads in India date back to circa 4000 BC and were preserved for 6000 years, a historical fact of India. The oldest dyed fabric from the country dates back to 2500 BC, yet another marvel. It is known that Indian textiles have played an important role in trade and business in ancient times and continues to do so even now.
One of the finest textile traditions in the world with respect to dyeing, weaving and surface embellishment our textile history has been layered and enriched by nuances of migratory weavers and tribes, foreign invasions and religious influences.
Specific to the region of its origin, each state of India displays a variety of designs and weaves, producing distinct textiles and crafts that are enhanced by the skills of the craftsmen and their tradition. The work that is created with the knowledge of traditional techniques, exploring local materials and most importantly, the Makers instinct.
The handmade and hand painted textiles in our country are made to wear, to suit a particular climatic condition, to tell a folk story, to worship and more.
