Dattatreya sculpture - Shri Jambukeswarar Akilandeswari Temple - Thiruvanaikovil, Tamilnadu, BHARAT (India) 🚩
The third praharam has beautiful and majestic pillars. One of the pillars has the Dattatreya sculpture in it.
Dattatreya or Datta is a Hindu deity encompassing the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, collectively known as Trimurti. The name Dattatreya can be divided into two words - "Datta" (meaning given) and "Atreya" referring to the sage Atri, his physical father.
It is a great carving with a bit of intricate starting from his Jata, eyes, three faces, Kamandalu in the left hand to his padukas (wooden chappals). There are four dogs in this carving and they are considered as four Vedas. Especially, we can see the feelings of the dog near his left leg, how completely it got mesmerized when it stands near the foot of Datta guru.
