Babasaheb Ambedkar opposed communists mainly by criticizing their methods, their idea of revolution, and their commitment to democracy. He argued that communism could become authoritarian, that it tried to force change without respecting democratic rights, and that Indian communists often followed ideas imported from abroad rather than solving Indian social problems.
He rejected the communist idea of “dictatorship of the proletariat” because he believed it conflicted with parliamentary democracy.
He warned that communism could act like a destructive force that consumed everything in its path, so it was dangerous for a free society.
He said Indian communists were trying to capture the labor movement, but without a sound, independent political base in India.
He also criticized them for lacking a distinct Indian policy and for drawing their ideas from Russia.
How he raised his voiceAmbedkar did this through speeches, writings, and political criticism rather than street agitation. In public remarks, he warned workers and Dalits to stay away from communists because he believed they were misleading workers and weakening social organizations.
He also challenged communist claims that they alone represented labor and social justice, arguing that democracy and constitutional safeguards were more important than revolutionary slogans. In simple words, he was not against equality or workers’ rights; he was against communist methods and their anti-democratic approach. His position was that social justice should come through democracy, law, and constitutional protection, not through violent or total revolutionary politics.
