Thomas Mar Thoma Church, Kalamassery is a Parish of the Kottayam- Kochi Diocese of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, with its headquarters at Thiruvalla. The parish complex which is housed in a 36.5 cents of plot is 300 meters away from NH-47, on the right side of Seaport-Airport Road.
9 families, migrants from Central Travancore, members of Mar Thoma Church, Aluva,decided to form a small p
rayer group at Kalamassery. A.P.Jacob, the then Vicar of Mar Thoma Church, Aluva was highly instrumental in forming a prayer group, a dream of this spiritually vibrant group. With an intention of constructing an appropriate building for worship, a plot of 18 cents was acquired near Kalamassery Politechnic. Consequent to the acquisition of the plot by NH authorities, a plot of 27.5 cents was procured, which houses the present parish complex.Most.Rev.Dr.Philipose Mar Chrysostom, laid the foundation stone of the Chapel in 1963. Late Dr. Thomas Mar Athenasius Suffergen Episcopa on 18th October 1964, dedicated this Chapel,which then had an approximate membership of 125 from 19 families. This Chapel was accorded the status of an Edavaka on 1st May 1966. Dr.Alexander Mar Thoma Metropolitan laid the foundation stone for the present church on 17th September, 1995. Construction started on 1st April 1996 and the present Church was Consecrated jointly by Geevarghese Mar Athanasius Episcopa and Joseph Mar Bernabas Episcopa on 1st March, 1997. The present Church can accommodate strength of 500 people and a Parish Hall, which is also constructed simultaneously, can accommodate the same strength. 6 Cents of land procured from Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association on 31st March 2000 was used to extend our existing cemetery on the Eastern side. Later a Cellar for 108 families was constructed and dedication prayer ceremony was conducted on 31st December 2005 With the intention to construct a Parsonage complex, 9 cents of land was acquired on 30th December 2000. Foundation stone was laid on 4th March 2001 by Rt.Rev. Geevarghese Mar Athanasius Episcopa and blessed on 1st December 2002 by Rt.Rev.Dr.Issac Mar Philoxinos Episcopa. Parsonage complex comprises of a Mini Hall in the ground floor, two apartments in the first floor and parsonage on top floor. On 17th June 2011, a plot of 13.65 cents was acquired to construct an Annex to the existing Cemetery at Thengode. Our Parish from a humble beginning and with an initial membership of 9 families has grown to a membership base of 300 families comprising 1800 members.
