SING UNTO THE LORD (Ps 96:2)
Objectives of the Divine Carol Festival 2012:
1. To popularize and encourage Christian Choral Singing in our parishes and communities.
2. To encourage choirs and musicians to improve standards for the glory of God
in Worship & Music Ministry.
3. To appreciate committed Christian Choirs nationwide and provide quality exposure to Christian Music.
4. To showcase the best music ministries nationwide via the Divine Vision ministry through the Goodness and Divine TV channels. Rules and Regulations for Preliminary Round Auditions
Eligibility to Participate:
1. The DCF 2012 Nationwide Competition will be conducted in 3 categories. SCHOOL CHOIR – Grade 1 to Grade 10
COLLEGE CHOIR – Grade 11 to PG Courses
OPEN CHOIR – Choirs from parishes, institutions and independent choirs and bands
2. A participating team must have a minimum of 8 singers and a maximum of 24 singers which would include the orchestral accompanists.
3. The teams can be all female, all male or mixed voice [male and female] groups.
4. Schools/colleges/parishes/communities and other institutions can register 1 team per category. During the Preliminary Auditions Round a team must sing one song only.
6. The theme of the selected song should be “Christmas”.
7. All songs shall be sung in English.
8. All songs must be sung by heart by the contestants.
9. The song can be a traditional or contemporary carol.

10. The team is expected to demonstrate skills of singing unison, 2-part, 3-part or 4 part harmony, Acappela and if suitable solo with chorus possibilities.
11. The lyric sheet or 3 copies of the music score should be submitted when the team reports for audition. The maximum duration of a song performance including stage set-up will be 12 minutes.
13. For every 30 seconds over time, 1 mark will be reduced from the total points.
14. The stopwatch will start from the moment the name of the team is announced. There will be a warning light/bell one minute before the end of the stipulated time. Orchestral Accompaniment:
15. All groups must use only live orchestral accompaniment. A group may choose to sing without orchestral accompaniment.
16. Maximum number of musical instruments that can be used during a performance will be six. (For Eg: El. Keyboard, Piano, Guitar, Violin, Drums, and Saxophone, Flute)
17. Use of pre-recorded or sequenced music tracks, rhythm box and karaoke are not permitted.
18. A Jazz Drum set, Electric Guitar Amplifier and Bass Amplifier, Keyboard Amplifier and 6 microphones with stand and 1 cordless mike will be provided on stage. Guitars, keyboard, drum sticks and cables will not be provided.
19. Additional instruments may be used but the team is not allowed to bring external Sound System. Stage Appearance:
20. All teams are expected to wear sensible attire for visual appeal and sense of discipline. Registration and Auditions:
21. During the Preliminary Round Auditions teams that have submitted entry forms earlier will be given preference with regard to performance time.
22. Last date of submission of entry forms will be October 2012. Reporting Time:
23. Teams should report to the contest venue one hour before the performance time.
24. Teams reporting late will not be allowed to participate.

Judging Points:
25. The performance of each team will be evaluated on the following parameters:
Vocal Quality and Choral Singing Technique – 30%
[Blend of Choral Voices, Use of Vocal Dynamics and Phrasing]
Choice of Song and Quality of Diction – 20%
[Message of the Song and Ability of the Choir to sing the Lyrics with Required Clarity]
Orchestral Balance and Choral Performance– 30%
[Ability of the Accompanists to assist the Choir to sing in Harmony]
Visual Appeal and Stage Presence – 20%
[The Choice of Costumes, Stage Formation and the Confidence of the Choir]
Additional RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR GRAND FINALE ROUND
26. One team per category will be selected from each Center to the Grand Finale Round that will be held at the Divine Retreat Centre, Muringoor, Kerala on 22 December 2012.
27. The selected teams are eligible for reimbursement of roundtrip sleeper class train fare. Food and accommodation will be provided by the organizers.
28. All contestants should perform 2 songs in the Grand Finale Round. All rules related to performance expectations in the Preliminary Round will be applicable to the Grand Finale Round as well. Songs for Grand Finale Round:
29. Traditional Carol Round: The team can sing the song in 3 or 4 parts harmony [For eg: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass Voices]. The music notation must be submitted to the organizers one week before the Grand Finale Round. Lyric Sheet to be submitted if Music Notation sheet is not available.
30. Popular Christmas Carol Round: The team can choose a song that has been composed after 1960 from Music Books or Christmas Albums onwards with or without standard notation.

Judges:
31. Experienced and qualified judges will be present during the Grand Finale to evaluate the performance of the participating teams. The decision of the judges in the preliminary and final rounds will be binding on all contestants. Commitment:
32. By participating in the festival, you are conferring on Divine TV/Goodness TV the right to use your name, photograph, voice recording, video recording, entry materials or likeness in promotional materials without any compensation
