Imam Shafi'i, full name Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Idris Al-Shafi'i, was a renowned Muslim legal scholar born in 767 CE in Gaza, Palestine, during the Abbasid Caliphate. He is one of the four great Imams of Sunni Islamic jurisprudence and the founder of the Shafi'i school of law. He is also known for his significant contributions to Islamic legal methodology, especially in the use of hadith (traditions of the Prophet Muhammad) in jurisprudence.Imam Shafi'i belonged to the Quraysh tribe, related to the Prophet Muhammad, and was raised in Mecca by his mother after his father's early death. He studied under Imam Malik in Medina and later traveled to Yemen, Baghdad, and Egypt to expand his knowledge. Notably, he integrated the legal traditions of Iraq and the practices of Mecca and Medina into his jurisprudence framework.He faced imprisonment due to political unrest but was soon released and continued his scholarly work. Eventually, he settled in Egypt, where he taught and developed his fiqh (Islamic legal principles) until he passed away in 820 CE in Fustat (Old Cairo), Egypt. His legal school remains influential worldwide, and he is remembered as a foundational figure in Islamic jurisprudence.May Allah tala accept his contributions.
