WHY DO SOME CHRISTIANS KEEP SUNDAY AS THE SABBATH INSTEAD OF THE SEVENTH DAY? 🤔
If Christians all believe in Jesus, why do they worship on different days?
The answer is more complicated than simply saying, “One group follows the Bible and the other doesn’t.”
Many Christians worship on Sunday because they understand the resurrection of Jesus, early Christian gatherings, and church tradition as reasons for Sunday worship.
Others, including Seventh-day Adventists, observe the seventh-day Sabbath because they believe Scripture never records a change from the seventh day to the first day of the week.
So what does the Bible actually say?
📖 Genesis 2:2–3
God rested on the seventh day, blessed it, and made it holy.
📖 Exodus 20:8–10
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy… But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God.”
Jesus also kept the Sabbath.
📖 Luke 4:16
“As his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day…”
The New Testament does mention Christians gathering on the first day of the week.
📖 Acts 20:7
But the passage does not call Sunday the Sabbath or say that God transferred the holiness of the seventh day to Sunday.
This is where the difference comes in.
Some Christians believe Sunday became the primary day of Christian worship.
Seventh-day Adventists believe the seventh-day Sabbath remains the biblical Sabbath because Scripture does not explicitly record a change.
And this is important:
Worshipping God isn’t limited to one day.
We can worship, pray, study Scripture, and follow Jesus every day.
The question is specifically about which day God set apart as the Sabbath.
📖 Isaiah 58:13
God calls the Sabbath “my holy day.”
So rather than simply arguing about traditions, why not ask:
What does Scripture actually say about the day God blessed and made holy?
Read the Bible.
Study the context.
Ask God for wisdom.
Because our goal should never be to win an argument.
Our goal should be to follow Jesus wherever His Word leads. 🤍
Happy Sunday! ☀️
