EPISODE 11 : IS SCIENCE THE ONLY FORM OF TRUE KNOWLEDGE? SIMPLE DEFINITION OF KNOWLEDGE

Let us start this video by asking a question: can we include in the category of knowledge the various disciplines like science, religious belief, history, poetry and literature. There is a general opinion in the minds of people that only science is the proper kind of knowledge. In other words, most of the people do not treat the other subjects such as religious belief, history and poetry as forms of knowledge. For clearing this ambiguity, we would devote this video for defining knowledge in the most general manner.

Now we are entering the subject designated as philosophy of science, which started in the context of classical physics chiefly by Descartes, David Hume and Immanuel Kant. Here the two most important philosophical problems considered are given below:

1. What is the method to determine the validity of theories and laws of classical physics ?
2. How does classical physics answer the vital question about the origin and existence of things?

It may be noted that the first question pertains to epistemology or theory of knowledge, while the second is about ontology. When we say that this table exists, it means that we have knowledge about it. Hence epistemology and ontology are inter-related. This principle is adopted in the present video.

This Promo Video illustrates the story of the origin and evolution of SYSTEM PHILOSOPHY. The author George Luke, in the last three decades, have read and studied numerous books and articles on Science, Religion and Philosophy for a Synthesis.

The urge for a Synthesis originated like an atom and it exploded, similar to the big bang event of our Universe. Then came the storm of scattered principles which got assembled to take the form of a new philosophy called SYSTEM PHILOSOPHY.

The innovative ideas of this integrative thought resulted in the production of a sequence of books, finally represented by the volume ‘System Philosophy about Universe’. The author is currently engaged in the making of a series of videos through the YouTube channel PGL Talks.

EPISODE 10 : CLASSICAL SCIENCE – THE BASIC ISSUES

We have already explained that science started after the Renaissance happened in European countries during fifteenth century. This cultural upheaval has three broad fields, namely, industrial revolution, scientific revolution and Reformation in religious organization. The advancement of scientific revolution was powered mainly by the new discoveries in the various branches of science like physics, chemistry and biology.

Now it can be stated that science advanced in the last five centuries on the basis of the discoveries of physics. From the historical perspective, there are four phases of development of physics called Classical physics, quantum mechanics, quantum field theory and quantum cosmology.

Classical physics assumed that the basic unit of matter is atom. On the basis of this assumption, various scientific disciplines like chemistry and biology were developed during the period from sixteenth to nineteenth centuries – they together formed the area of Classical science.

EPISODE 07 : Scientific Knowledge (PART 2) -- CAUSE-EFFECT RELATION AND SCIENCE

IN THIS VIDEO we would present the proper definition of science. It is based on the notions of cause-effect relation and physical world.
We may conceive the evolution from a different point of view. In the biological world, there exist life and mind, which are expressions of consciousness. But consciousness is not visible. We say that it is non-physical.

It is expedient to hold that the evolution of our universe has occurred in two opposite directions – upwards in physical world and downwards in non-physical level. This fact can be compared with the growth of a tree – branches grow upwards, while roots grow downwards. We must take into account of this analogy, when we discuss the evolution of our universe comprehensively.

EPISODE 06 : Scientific Knowledge (PART 1) -- WHAT IS PHYSICAL WORLD?

The primary aim of this video series is to get a satisfactory answer to the age-old question: what is the origin of the universe? In other words, we want to know the original cause of the universe. The word ‘reality’ is treated as the synonym of original cause. In the bygone centuries, the weighty question about reality has been addressed differently in science and religion, but without any success. In the area or religious belief, the reality or original cause is God, with various shades of interpretations - we would postpone this topic to a later occasion.
