Sermon 22/01/2017 (By Pastor Sabu Thomas, Body of Christ Ministry)
Highlight : We all need to obtain eternal life and demonstrate the goodness of eternal life on this earth
Based on the Gospel of John 5:39,40 : Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 5:40 And you will not come to me, that you might have life.
These were the very words spoken by Jesus Christ himself while he was on earth. He was mainly addressing those Jews who boasted to have known the law and to have possessed a great deal of knowledge and understanding. The knowledge alone would not work rather the acceptance and obedience of the word of God only promote us to the privilege of having eternal life wherein they have outright rejected Jesus who is the word and the way and the eternal life.
If we examine John Chapter 5 through versus 19 to 49 we are able to see the relationship establishing of the Son and the Father in correlation and absolute cohesion. We get o see the Godliness of Jesus and Son Jesus who does the will of the God alone.
In verse John 5:21 it says For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. Jesus reiterates the uniformity of the Father and the Son in this verse
Revelation 19:13 : And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. That’s Jesus Christ. One needs to come to Jesus and get the word of God inside in order to obtain the eternal life. Once we come to Jesus, we have life and life more abundant
Those Jews didn’t believe and receive the word of God which is Jesus and they were deprived of the eternal life.
In Mark 16:16 says He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Some may argue you need to only believe to be saved. But it’s a process of first believe and then be baptized and then be saved. The other side of this verse is that anyone who does not believe and be baptized will not be saved.
Many believe that material blessings alone are the signs or rather result of eternal life. But we need to surrender and submit to the Lord and ask what He needs us to do for Him. A complete surrendering is needed. Jesus humbled himself and became obedient to the Father thereby giving all glory to the Father.
We must also humble ourselves and keep striving to give all glory and thanks to the Lord. We do not have anything to boast on our own except that which was given by the Lord. Our lives must become a testimony in front of others while we are living in this present world. We must ready and quicken ourselves to live a life more pleasing and adhering to Christ
Once we have got eternal life and surrender every area of ours to Christ, He will provide the things that we need for our life and godliness.
A person who has entered into eternal life must live accordingly so as to demonstrate the qualities of Christ. As a result our words and deeds will be refined and conforming to the standard of Christ. We will be obedient to the Lord at all the time.
John 5:36 says : He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. Those who are disobedient to the word of God are destined to receive the wrath of God here it emphasized.
Jesus is light and those who come to Him lives no more in darkness and the deeds of darkness depart them. When we are obedient to God and the word of God, whatever we pray for and supplicate, God will grant us, He will surely provide us.
So we must not be just readers of this Word but doers of it so that the life and more abundant life abide in us and we must exercise a daily walk with Jesus. We must talk to him and we must await Him to talk to us. Once we have such a wonderful experience, each one of us will have a shield of protection around us from heaven. No harm will come near us and we will have divine security and divine protection from the God Almighty.
